They’re harmless, and we’ve had orb-weavers in the SE forever. These guys are basically the same as the ones already here you’ll see in big webs between trees in Lowcountry and pine forests.

I have an irrational fear of spiders but part of that is driven by where they could be hiding. At 3 inches yer gonna know.

Usually you find them when you're walking along/through some trees when its dark out. I went face-first into an orb-weaver web last year in HHI walking back from the beach at night and let me tell you, Olympians don't jump as high as I did when not one but two of those long legged bastards found themselves instantly on my face.

I have vivid memories of the Orb Weavers that would setup shop around my cousins house in Atlanta. Really cool as long as they're not randomly falling from the sky.
