4/20 On the Green
The date of 4/20 coincided with the Green river seems intertwined.
It’s been kind of a tradition to meet up, mingle with like minded folks and fuck some fish in the face.
This year the festivities are taking place on the sections below Dutch John. The headquarters will be my property in Taylor Flats just above the bridge at the start of the C section. We can fish downstream and set up shuttles from there or fish the A or B sections.
I’m going up the weekend before (15th) to clear more ground on my property. It’s high desert land and depending on conditions could be cold or could be balmy. I’ll have my trailer there for party central and I’ll be bringing a few propane heaters. (In case it’s cold as fuck, which is a possibility.)
We’ve got a few folks from here committed, it should be a kicking good time. We should have a fair amount of seats in boats or inflatables, don’t be afraid to come.
Let’s get this party started!

We'll be there on the 20th to help set up camp. We'll have one boat with no empty seats. Will bring a couple easy ups for erection next to our camper.
Is there going to be an organized meal plan? I'm guessing that might be a bit chaotic so we'll probably bring our own kitchen and be self sufficient.
Fishing the afternoon of the 20th, then all of 21 and 22. We'll roll out leisurely on the 23rd, one of us has to be back that day.

I am a definite maybe, I have some work trips to finagle, but I am going to give it one hell of a try. If I come I will bring a boat of some sort, most likely the rubber variety as thats what I have here in Colorado...

Small chance I'd go. Not a fisherman but will row for ya. Never floated above Gates of Lodore. Kinda depends on if Alta ends up reopening or not for the 4/22 weekend.

4/20 On the Green
Does your Mom enjoy pontoon boat cruising ? Put her in your car and drive a few hours north for a visit to my Mom. We can take the ladies for a slow cruise and fish around my island for pike, bass, & walleye.
Not as much fun as 4/20 with Bob & Dibbs, but still a good time.

Whew, what a good time, I’m whooped.
Rolled up last Saturday after stopping off in Rock Springs to buy way too much food and not quite enough liquor.
Had to have Lumpy bring me a bonus box when I realized three boxes wasn’t going to last me 8 days.
Rolled up to Taylor Flats and everything looked ok.
Screwed around by myself the first couple days, set up camp, attempted to deal with propane fuckery and got camp set up.
Went over to Dutch John and filled my propane tanks, afterwards found the leaking line that caused them to be empty. The locals didn’t seem to mind Red Creek was flowing, less of a walk to a chocolate drink.
Tried to find a homestead unsuccessfully a couple times, then ran into a rancher running cows out there. He was a bit defensive at first and then warmed when he found out I had property in Taylor. He had me follow him to the spur road leading to Dr John Parsons homestead.
Super cool place, quite a bit more original than Jarvie’s place.
Monday Dibs showed up and people started filtering in. Woke up Tuesday and some blueberry donuts were breakfast.
Boats were launched and safety was discussed before we floated on.
The Drakians brought some to the boat.
Snowbird patroller Sam showed up, TGapp brought us sour cream, Roos and crew showed up, Lumpy rolled in and my buddy John made an appearance. We had a dog cornucopia out there. A dog named Tippet, a dog named after an old time Brown’s Park female outlaw, and even Larry the butt sniffing dog. Sheldon and TGapp’s dogs had a blast with all the new dogs.
Fish were caught, not in number I’d hoped but most brought at least one to the boat.
A lot of food was cooked, I brought back half of what I brought.
Beverages were drank.
We ate a lot of grit and faced a lot of wind but I hope a good time was had by all. We’ll see ya next year, Harry.

Before I get started, I am missing the following items: black Smith sunnies, gray North Face rain shell, and most of my liver. I'm sure the liver is shot, but if anyone has the sunglasses or jacket let me know please.
Low water, tough weather, and mildly decent fishing were the themes of this trip for me.
I brought some people and boats and we had an afternoon quickie on the day of arrival.
After bobbering up some fish at the boat ramp, we got into a pod of risers in the first few hundred yards. Went 4 for 7, I think.
We performed the first of 2 on-water surgeries of the trip.
The rest of the evening was streaming with streamers in the stream.
Bob (of Boblandia) hit a home run with his fried rice that night. And the Blackstone fucking rocks.
Next day was tough.
But we got a few.
Camp that evening was tranquil. One day it won't be called camp anymore, it'll be called house or cabin, or hopefully something more clever.
Dibs and Sheldon groomed each other. Sheldon is 5 years old already. I still call him Kessler by accident sometimes. No one knows how old Dibs is.
Next morning I was too lazy to cook so Sam did it for me. If you see him at the Bird say hi to him and Etta for me.
This guy doesn't fish and had never worn waders, but I convinced him that he would need them for the day. I was right.
Lumpy dislikes Greenies.
Mandatory stop at the best beach around, but we had to get moving because weather.
It rained. We swallowed.
Had one fish eat a streamer 4 times, which I had never seen before. We got him on the last one.
Gave up on fishing and just tried to enjoy the last of it, but that got interrupted by more dry fly fishing (not shown, available in motion picture only).
During pork chops a dry hurricane blew in and settled for more than a while, so the scene moved to the Cougar Den.
Thanks Bob and everyone else. See ya next year, if not sooner.

I found the jacket while packing up yesterday, I stupidly left it on the couch in the trailer when I left. Next time I’m out there I’ll grab it and get it to you. If the sunglasses got left on a table they probably got blown into the sage somewhere. After Saturday’s winds they may be over at Mark’s place by now.

Many thanks to Bob for the hosting. Phugging wind. Blackstone rocks. Remake of of True Grit rocked, fishing tough. The homestead tour was really cool!

Looks like another rendezvous on the Green is happening 8/12-8/17. We’ll have the usual cast of characters and anyone else is invited. I can’t guarantee any boat seats but I’ve got a couple kayaks and I’ll be in my pontoon, and there are plenty of places to wet wade it up.
Fishing has been good on hoppers and streamers, spinners have been catching fish for those that don’t fly fish.
Bring a tent, nominal amounts of food, some weed, a good attitude and fun will be had by all.
