russians have been crowdsourcing laptops and printers to print them (not joking). It’s kinda grim looking at some of the crowdsourcing channels- you stripped and saved to give your boys a hundred insecure radios, well done

Video of Ukrainian's using what must be laser guided artillery to absolutely decimate a Russian tank column. Holy fuck.

    2 part video.

I still like my metaphor for the whole affair: Putin stuck his dick in the wood chipper.

This isn’t surprising, and honest would likely be true of any country in any war. Most militaries do a poor job of producing and distributing modern maps. Also, with all the technology available you still want access to analog maps.
These guys https://rusi.org/explore-our-researc...ir-operations/ say that holding back is the wrong strategy. Instead, they posit that:
    - Russian pilots are not well trained (only 100 hrs per year in the saddle)
    - Russian command/control is horrible at coordinating ground & air fire/defense
    - Russians have little experience with large scale fighter attacks. In Syria they operated in groups of four or less.

I’m also reading that, similar to Bunions post about GPS transponders taped to the dashboard, Russians lack decent IFF capabilities- they don’t know if that MiG they see is Ukrainian or a friendly.

which isn’t incompatible with holding back, just raises the question of what is being held back. the notion that 7 planes out of 130 total, being lost is not many (figure readiness of 60-80%, that’s 7-10% of your active fleet) is a bit strained. And That’s a loss of machines and men repeated across the Air Force and army it seems.

I'm curious if that's purely artillery or if they were mopping up with Javelins or something else? The first hit in the second video (rocket-like flare out the top) and then the speeder getting taken out at 0:47 look different from the others.

Still on the roads. Hopefully mud season sticks around just long enough.

    ^^^ Yup, chicken/egg problem
Including that Russia doesn’t have the same focus on air power as NATO.

Russian doctrine also calls for a higher concentration of ADA capabilities organic down to the platoon and company level. In theory this gives their subordinate commanders higher protection capabilities but in practice just results in poorly trained and maintained ADA. Tank commanders who can barely keep their T-72s running and their infantry trained are probably going to neglect the training of their SA-7s teams and training/maintenance of their SA-13s and crews

Ukraine and Russia had a treaty from the mid-90s allowing the Russian Navy to use the base at Sevastopol. Rent was paid in natural gas. Russia stopped paying rent in 2014.

Yea, I mean its obviously a smear campaign, but still caught me off guard. Could be entirely a fabrication.

We're up to 6 oligarch critics who have died since the start of the offensive.. A couple of them supposedly.. killed their families and committed suicide out of the blue.. no note or nothing..

Truly an amazing coincidence. I mean, it’s pretty rare for extremely wealthy people to commit murder suicides in the first place, yet here we have several from a relatively small group of Russians do it over a period of two months? What are the odds?!!

ok then. Yesterday I rambled about Ukraine and Russia sorting out Crimea and naval base...

That says Russia already had a good agreement for Crimea basing thru 2047, and ripped it up in 2014. Morally, I'd say Russia pissed in that soup, and deserves no base. Sorry Vlad, you dun fucked it up.

Putin's really taking advantage of short attention spans. As a result, I see lots of unreasonable proposals in the west (mine included).

I don't think it registered for many people that there's been continuous fighting in Ukraine since 2014. Remember MH17? That was Russia.

Edit: not sure how much you're interested in it but this guy Zhuchkovsky wrote a book about Russian involvement in 2014. There's an English translation that was recently published.
Here's an article about him and what's in the book.

Jesus. I can’t even imagine how bad that hurts the ears. I’ve shot a decent amount of howitzer rounds and always with earplugs in under the beefiest ear protection available.

he only links to it, but wiki points out 1964-65 the USSR supplied SAM systems with “operator/trainers” that downed 40+ US aircraft and this didn’t start WW3

We didn't nuke the Chinese even when they invaded NK and took on US soldiers directly at the Chosin Reservoir. During a UN-sanctioned intervention.

These things are all made up.
