The Turks have had the straits for about 800 years.

You'd have to invade and occupy the NW 1/3 of Turkey.

Cono Este’s highly revered British Army tried to do exactly that, and got slaughtered.

The Bosphorus is pretty useless without the Dardanelles, you could just seize and fortify both sides of the Aegean end of the Dardanelles (there's basically nobody there) and dictate terms. If you wanted to do something like that.

    What is your goal?

If you want to restrict traffic, don't fucking invade one side and try to keep a toehold. Just blockade one end like the British did in WW1 (after foolishly considering forcing the straits).

If you want to force your traffic through, you need to control both sides AND a land buffer all around. That would be very costly (and world war inducing) just ask the Brits and ANZACs about Gallipoli.

How is Russia manufacturing any military hardware to sell right now? Aren't they having a hard enough time keeping their own troops supplied with arms?
Aim for the chopping block. If you aim for the wood, you will have nothing. Aim past the wood, aim through the wood.

Goals to allow unimpeded Ukrainian traffic while denying Russian traffic and tell Erdogan to fuck off. Probably not feasible to achieve both.

The problem for Ukraine is Russian control of the Black Sea

Absolutely. And in my opinion it begins with Turkey not fondling Putin's nutsack. Ya, I know they gotta live in that neighborhood. And Turkey likes to pretend to be a NATO member when it suits themselves. Everything I post involves major oversimplifications of a complex problem.

The question isn’t any it’s how many to what standard, same as it has been for years.

Hmm... With the Russians stacking ammo in the open, I could see a battery powered kayak / drone carrier that navigates close to shore (black sea, azov sea, lake, river). Then the drones autonomously launch and fly via autonomous navigation to ammo dumps then drop a couple incendiaries. Bonus points for making it return to base.

VVER-1000s are pretty safe reactor design . Until drunken neoSoviet conscripts start shooting rockets and tanks...

It is probably bluster, but if they are serious about the "don't show up tomorrow," they would shut down this shift, and things would probably be fine as long as there is external power supply and nobody shoots holes things or sets them on fire. You kinda need to have some people around in case of emergency. On site diesel supplies are limited if they lose the mains.

If you shut down a reactor you still have to run cooling pumps and some other systems because dat core be hot yo.

Also, dropping 3-5GW off the grid could have some ripple effects...

So apparently Russia has asked their arms maker to tool up to produce the 1980 designed BMP-2 again after being out of production for decades. Which is just what you want to do if you are getting rid of the old stuff
