Will be interesting to see if this is a one off, or if this is setting the stage to pull out:

^^^ For clarity, this video is 3-4 weeks old. It got into Russian telegrams today and they all hate on this guy. They are all trying to dismiss his words.

Yeah, Putin ain’t gonna pull out until he annihilates some place or another for sinking his warship, IMO. And it will probably be Kyiv.

Putin always waits to make sure Benny has has full satisfaction before he pulls out. He likes to make sure his propagandists are happy.

All production at Uralvagonzavod, the only producer of tanks in Russia, is now stopped. Lack of needed parts. Sanctions working

I wonder how many US weapons/tanks/aircraft etc. Require foreign sourced components. (Chips, processors, etc).

There are laws about this. Not "no foreign content" for everything, but lots and lots of things require parts from white-listed places and/or suppliers.

I'm guessing Russia has laws, too. That way they can arrest people who run tank factories, for example.

I think we still have a large exposure to China’s rare earth metals…

Our economy as a whole more than our military, but yeah for sure. Cheap little magnets are addictive.

define foreign sourced. My experience is old but most of that was sourced domestically, or from allies (uk, etc), it was the lesser materials that would be sourced from less friendly powers

@ TBS: Yeah the situation's a bit better now with the reopening of the Mountain Pass Mine in 2018 but it's the only rare-earth mine we have.

I thought that rare-earth minerals weren’t actually that rare, but mining them is toxic and involves poor working conditions, thus wealthy countries don’t want to mine them themselves (?).

If true, long term dependence isn’t a concern, but not sure how quickly you go from ‘oh fuck, China’s about to screw us’ to actually having another source.

the answer to the last is often “how much money do you want to spend”. The us is big on squawking, and welfare defense spending, but not so much on real capacity

    Ukraine

The GOP can’t be bothered to vote for US infrastructure or covid or family aid cuz no money…must conserve, but $13B for Ukraine aid? Mitch & his cohort are all on board…give em more!

I dunno, I think they're pretty rare, man. I mean it's in the name, come on.

*most of them aren't actually rare but finding concentrations dense enough and near enough to the surface to be economical to mine is indeed pretty rare

Wow. That’s kinda surprising. If they can’t be removed easily above the surface, how the hell do they recover them now 150’ below?

TBF, they are at least holding pretty still now. I hear they're nestled in next to the anti-matter torpedoes.

they load them with a Derrick on a barge- 10m *.8m and 5 tons. If they could get that kinda salvage equipment out to the ship that fast it’d be concentrated on making sure it doesn’t sink

Worth noting that apparently much of the speculation about nukes may trace back to an explicitly speculative Facebook post:

    https://mobile.twitter.com/HelloMrBo...29591646457860

If the Moskva sometimes carried tactical anti-carrier nukes it's just as likely they would have been swapped out for something more likely to see use. Of course, if there's a Russian sub hovering over the wreckage that might be kind of telling, too.

That’s the whole missile though. They can’t take just the warhead?

The US Navy has raised entire submarines from far deeper than 150'. I gotta think this is pretty basic salvage stuff for the right squad.
