They may not be psychopaths when they are recruited - but there does seem to be a concerted effort to turn them into psychopaths before they leave

It's not incredible at all. They're trained and selected for stomping heads, like Cobra Kai.
Unless you've lived in a barracks or prison, a military school or muy thai academy... you have no idea what it means to be beasted. All-boy environments are rough by their very nature.

And my experience is with orgs that have positive values, and some oversight. These Russian kids from dirt floor hamlets are thrown into a hell hole, and the ones who climb out are put in charge...

“The Russian military began its spring draft Friday, aiming to sign up 134,500 conscripts and stoking fears among young men that they may end up on the front lines of the invasion of Ukraine.

Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has vowed that none of them will be used to reinforce Russian troops now fighting in Ukraine. “Please note that conscripts will not be deployed to any hot spots,” he said in televised remarks Tuesday, adding that those who were drafted last spring will be discharged and sent home at the end of their one-year service.
But amid the significant losses suffered by Russian forces in their Ukrainian campaign, which appears to have lasted longer than the Kremlin anticipated, Shoigu’s assurances have not put all prospective conscripts and their families at ease.

All Russian men between 18 and 27 must serve one year in the military, and recruitment campaigns are usually held each spring and fall. Dodging the draft is punishable by heavy fines and sentences of up to two years in prison.
Human rights groups and lawyers say that since Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24, they have been receiving a barrage of calls from eligible men, as well as their wives, girlfriends and mothers, seeking legal help in avoiding the draft.
“The amount of applications is enormous, much more if compared [to previous drafts],” said a lawyer who works with a legal group called Conscious Refusal From Military Service in Russia, which assists Russians in navigating the laws on conscription and contract service in the armed forces. The lawyer spoke on the condition of anonymity because Russia has recently introduced new laws mandating punishment for “discrediting” the Russian army.

“People have not been assured [by what Shoigu said] because it is not backed by anything but ‘the minister said so,’” the lawyer said. “Because in fact the law, the military service regulation, allows sending conscripts who served for at least four months into combat.””

“Dedovshchina” and being cannon fodder awaits them, and I doubt bone spurs would help in Putlers Russia.
OBrien has talked about the conscripts in the past on his Twitter feed. Had a new thread today about available forces, and that it seems that the reserves they do have aren’t capable/trusted, so sending the Bucha guys back into Donbas after only two days rest:

“To take a clear stand is not only crucial for us in Europe but also for the rest of the world,” Von der Leyen said. “A clear stand against Putin’s war of choice. A clear stand against the massacre of civilians. And a clear stand against the violation of the fundamental principles of the world order.”

Energy policy expert Simone Tagliapietra with the Bruegel think tank in Brussels said coal represented $22 million per day in revenue for Russia from Europe at current prices, compared with $935 million per day for oil and gas.

The coal ban “is important because it breaks the energy taboo,” he said, but it is not “a game changer. ... Targeting coal for the moment is too prudent. It’s too symbolic, and the time for symbolic measures is gone.

“It’s not with coal that Putin can get rich or sustain the funding of the war. The big flow of money is certainly oil and gas, not coal, and that’s the issue.”

The proposal still must be adopted unanimously by all 27 EU countries and is included among a new package of sanctions.
Europe looking at the real Russian funding sources now. It'll be tough to undo decades of peace dividend / cheap energy / trade relations / industrial development. Higher paygrade than mine to determine the best course.

theres also layers of institutional and cultural failure. The Russian military has officially wanted to get rid of dedovchina for years - because a soldier killing 8 because he doesn’t want to get raped is bad for the military- and they obviously haven’t been successful. Soldiers who feel they are able to loot - down to gold teeth - requires a market for gold teeth. A soldier replacing his armor plate with a looted MacBook and getting killed is a failure, not a success

The comparison of psychos 2ould heavily sway towards russians. Their army is tortured by hasing. First 2 yrs of being a jr conscript you will be lucky not to be seriosly injured or killed by older soldiers that have been hased and are just counging the seconds until they can hase a young recruit. Raping, injuring and killing each other and a rate 3x of the US military. Of course dumbfuck bunny thinks its even because dumbfuck

Benny is an idiot. The Russian army is systematically engaging in organized, unit level, mass genocide either explicitly or implicitly ordered. People killed by bombs don't have their ears cut off, teeth pulled out, their hands tied behind their backs and gunshots to the back of the head.

And there two main reasons why anti tank missiles are so effective against the Russian army: 1) The Ukrainians are well trained, 2) The Russian army is bad at combined arms which would otherwise mitigate their effectiveness.

“The scale of the tragedy in Mariupol the world has not seen since the times of Nazi concentration camps,” mayor Vadym Boychenko said. Russians, he added, “turned our whole city into a death camp.” Russia’s special brigades collect and burn the bodies of murdered residents. Tens of thousands of civilians have been killed in Mariupol.

With the images coming out of Bucha and Mariupol of civilians slaughtered by the Russians, it's astonishing there are still fingers-in-ears-la-la-la rank morons like Benny unable to accept an unwelcome reality who say Ukrainians should roll over instead of fight, or that this is somehow all the West's fault.

She's the same person that when Covid lockdowns started she got militant about the response, then transitioned that energy to being the online authority for the BLM movement that summer, constitutional law scholar, on to trans rights, some relative silence then anti-war lecturer. But, today, we make sure well clad MSNBC reporters are there to show you evidence of "genocide". Lord knows what kinds of "genocide" our non hazed (har har) Marines committed after we practically carpet bombed civilians in Baghdad. Hazing in the Russian military. Right. And our guys are loved in basic training. Jezuz.

It's fucking war. Ever since one group of apes attacked another, there's been "civilian atrocities". Read some fucking history. And, as long as you cheerlead this thing and think the Ukrainians "won", more will die. Many more.

Gotta admit, those cheap portable anti tank weapons really have to make a lot of generals think tanks are obsolete. Like large ships after they invented the cruise missle.
Well, you have a point about the carpet bombing of cities. It's tough for a B-52 pilot to rape a civilian in front of their kids after they shot dad in front of their kids. Then carved a swastika on the dead mom's back while munching on some Borst they took out of the fridge while dad's brains ooze out all over the kitchen wall in front of the kids.

I guess we can cut the Russians some slack for bombing Mariupol into concrete dust and yet commit the raping, pillaging and murder of civilians w/o carpet bombing the place by air. You'd have to be a psychopath to admire that, or be incredulous to it.
