Red Mountain BC, how is it ?
so who has made the trip to Rossland ? I'm curious how the terrain compares to the biggies, Squaw, Jackson, big sky, etc ?

It's a great mountain, lots of good steep skiing with sustained pitches unlike the steep to flat of Palisades. Make the daytrip or two to Whitewater too.

Check out the South BC thread. Plenty of beta there:

There's not really much alpine to speak of, and the shopping sucks. No spa that I could find, either

I'm headed out for the first time next week but have done lots of reading. There are lots of good threads on Southern BC and the powder highway that discuss Red along with several other nearby areas.
Here are two specifically about Red. Lots more out there if you do a little searching.

sweet terrain, fixed grip lifts, less snow than WH20, chill vibe, fun place to ski!

Killer hill, marginal snow.
I would love to hit it during a big cycle.

A friend is there now with a group from the ski club. Not much snow lately, but looks like a cool place. They got held up by the trucker convoy driving from Spokane but went down the road a piece to another entry.

Steepest trees I’ve ever skied.

Red Sucked both times I went. First time, in December, there was so much powder that I couldn't see my skis. Second time, in March, it was so cold at night that the mornings were scary fast and so warm in the afternoon that the stuff melted and turned to ball bearings. But, at least it wasn't crowded.

I love Red. Some good terrain around there. Seconded the suggestion on Whitewater. Excellent tree skiing and we rolled up at 10am on a surprise powder day and no lines.

I havent skied there in a lot of years, good terrain, its STEEP, lots of alpine racers came out of red
but it is kind of low in elevation so pay attention to the weather i've driven by on the job headed home and it was driving rain at the base
Red was the 1st ski hill in BC it was built by the community from parts they " borrowed " from Cominco and every body was in on itLee Lau - xxx-er is the laziest Asian canuck I know

Red is great, I've also heard good things about the little ski hill near Grand Forks, Phoenix Mountain. Seems casual/fun.

I am heading through that way this weekend, going to ski Red or Whitewater Sunday. Looks like Whitewater has more snow coming on the Saturday night and Red more during the day on Sunday. First snow in a while and family day weekend - which will be better for line-ups?
