I have some very fond insane downpour days in the Big Holes, but I was a kiddo like you then!

Signed up for the BC Bike Race in September this year.

Have almost zero bike racing experience.

Ride an Ibis Ripmo - so probably a bit over biked.

    Should be fine.

    Great write-up.

BME announced they’ve cancelled the Big Sky race. Too much snow. I believe it. The NAEC crew spent quite a few hours shoveling at Silver.

Thanks guys, really appreciate it! Just don't look at my stage times!

Bummed to hear about the BME, but totally makes sense given current events...

This is awesome. Good work Cy!

We had a blast as injured spectators/course marshals. It was my lady friends first time at a bike race (even though she is obsessed with riding bikes) and she "gets it" now.

We were about to get geared up for an epic Tiki Bar heckle zone again with the Cannondale crew.....but nope. Boyned.

    2022 Maggot Bike Racing Thread

    Echoing the excellent write up!

Anyone else here racing the Helenduro this weekend? First bike race for me and I’m a bit on edge because I haven’t received a lick of information yet. Is Friday even a practice day? Who knows!

In any case very much looking forward to it!

Never done that one before but it looks fun.
The race roster is filled as of now, but I just signed up for the waitlist.

6-mile backcountry descent (re)built by our very own raisingarizona. Gotta be fit to be fast but fitness alone won't win it. No mass start BS either, racers run at 2-minute intervals.

For sure. It’s a single stage point-to-point race with minimal climbing where the finish line is at a lower elevation than the starting line. Old school NORBA definition of Super D.

We did the Brianhead Super D several years ago and it was fun and a bit gnarly iirc. must have been before the reroute. Would love to ride it after RA did his magic.
Met up with a few other mags- beaterdit, the infamous Particle, Mr and mrs Alta girls.
Think I won that race too #glorydaze

edit to add that it must have only been Mr AG bc Mrs AG would have beaten me if she were racing

Always lurkin', and yes - I'm doing the Carriboo Jack with a group of friends from Missoula! Fired up for this ride and stupid fun day in the saddle. Highly recommended event. Get on the waitlist or volunteer to help!

Ran the whole Helenduro course for practice today, it’s way more technical than I thought it’d be. Goin to be an awesome race tomorrow!

The switchbacks on the last stage are sure to make for some good watching… might dismount for the second to last one. Rode it like five times and could never get it around

I used to live in the condos across the street and rode that trail several times a week. That one was challenging before I had a 1250+mm wheelbase. It’s trickier now, but trackstanding your way around a switchback isn’t the fastest option. No points for cleaning it.

I’m looking forward to watching that last section.

Dark Hollow Super D was epic. Full-on hailstorm at the start and pedaled the Sydney Peaks section drenched with knumb fingers. It let up at the pond and after that it was on, cool temps and prime dirt for 5 miles on a closed course finding the ragged edge. I finished with an official time of 23:38 which won Cat 2 Men 40-49. I'm pretty sure I placed 5th overall. The top pro time was 21:22 by Naish Ullmer (who, to be fairrr, did get the benefit of not starting in a hailstorm).

Sam rode 28:07 with miserable start conditions and no practice run, totally blind top-to-bottom. Super impressive for a 12 year old. He was all smiles at the finish. I started 8 minutes behind him and fully expected to catch him, so proud. That was only good enough for 4th in Cat 2 13-15. Man kids are fast these days.

Altachic finished with a very respectable 28:25 which won Cat 3 women 19+ by over two minutes. Totally killed it.
