Maui is pretty bad. I was there several years ago when a relatively large fire burned through the narrow part of the island. Condo/hotel was under evacuation. We were on the wrong side of the fire from our hotel. Couldn’t even get to the evac center because of road closures. Trade winds finally winded down, fire slowed, and roads opened at like midnight.

My county is shown in that map, too. There were a lot of small wildfires today in my area, maybe 5 or 6 within 10 miles of my home.

The shit has hit the fan.
Oh shit. I know that area well. I camped several summers on a ranch just off that road doing my geology thesis work.

We were lucky it wasn’t windy today around Nevada county. I hope that remains the case this hot dry week.

Apparently, the neighborhood that burned down in Weed was a historically black neighborhood. Developed when the mill was initially established. The people that lived in that neighborhood played an important civil rights role in NorCal.

Huh. Not the side I would have expected Mother Nature to take in that debate.

Black folks moved to Weed during WWII for work. Most came from the Bay Area. Good BBQ in Weed.

I know what you’re saying, and probably more often than not you’re on the money, but Santa Barbara/Montecito begs to differ. Other communities can chime in.

Yeah, it's gnarly over here. Rumor has it that it jumped the highway this afternoon and is heading into the western drainages of the White Clouds. it grew from 5,500 acres Friday afternoon to 15,000 Monday to more than 24,000 acres Tuesday morning.

‘Mosquito Fire’ 30 miles west of Tahoe.

    https://www.fire.ca.gov/incidents/20...mosquito-fire/

They had it at 12k acres earlier in the day but are now saying 4k.

Zeke Lunder was showing fire history in that area and fires were either very small if they got put out immediately, or were pretty big due to the difficult terrain.
