Denver to Nelson (Ymir hut) and back again.
Starting this as an ongoing trip report for the next 2 ish weeks.
Tomorrow morning I start the drive from Denver to Nelson. I am supposed to be traveling with a non-mag buddy (though he introduced me to other mags) who can't find his fucking passport. (For reference: I am bad passport juju...a fellow mag was supposed to go to BBIEuro 19 on the same flight as me, but realized his passport was expired the day of.) So instead...I've got a 20ish hr drive each way solo. I expect 3-4 days each way to/from Nelson. Ski in the AM, drive in the PM. Log some work hours in between.
Plan to drive to Bozeman tomorrow. Might ski a morning at Bridger Thursday($70 ain't too bad? maybe I can swap comps with patrol...), unless some mag wants to do a short tour in the AM?
Then up to Sandpoint to rendevous with TAFKALS and his better half. Ski Schweitzer in the AM friday (on the Loveland pass) and drive up to Canada.
Once in Nelson, I'm headed in the Ymir hut for a week-long Level 2 class. Hopefully, Tgapp will be there to make me coffee and drink some of the wine I bought. It appears we will be skiing sun/rain crusts all week under a brilliant sun. So much for my first trip to Canada in Jan being all pow-filled memories.
After the trip headed back to Denver...via SLC? Jackson? Pretty flexible as now I've got a whole minivan to myself with a sleeping setup that is comfy down to ~0F.
Change my plans. Recommend places to ski, tour, eat, drink, see along the way. I've got a Loveland pass which grants access to a bunch of spots in between (Powder Alliance, Powder Mtn, Snow King, Whitefish, Brundage, Red Lodge, etc).
Free beers and stoke should you come across the van...

Bon voyage.
Sorry about the high pressure but at least you'll be able to see everything.
Maybe instead of going I-25 to I-90, use the good weather window to bang I-80 to US-191 to Jackson, take a quick tour/stretchbreak at Teton pass, finish the day at Hebgen lake to camp in the van. Next day ski across the lake for a half-day tour, continue on US-287 thru Ennis and on to I-90 and points north, skipping Brozeman altogether.

I would argue my passport was STOLEN because I never lose anything everrr. And it's your bad juju's fault anyway. Hope I can figure this out and catch the flight to spokane friday!

If there's worthwhile snow by the time you're driving back, you could scoot over and ski Turner, just north of Libby, Montana. It wouldn't be very far out of your way. Open Friday - Sunday (so Fridays are potentially extra powdery). Cool little hill with one chairlift serving 2,000 feet of good fall line skiing. It's somewhat low elevation though, so don't bother if it hasn't been snowing or if it's been warm.

The slope right above Ymir lodge faces due south and should corn up nicely with the high pressure. Beautiful area to explore and conditions will allow you to cover some serious ground fast. You could conceivably tour all the way to Whitewater and back from the lodge. Lots of North facing gnar above the lake that should be stable. I've been several times in all sorts of conditions and while skiing powder is fun, I've had the most fun in sunny, stable conditions because it allows me to roam.
South facing slope above lodge is in the sun
Terrain above Qua lake, taken in January on a below normal snow year

The last real ski vacation I went on before all this was that drive. Go though Cody if you wanna see the real Wyoming. I've toured out of those yurts on a different trip decades ago. You're gonna love it. The terrain in the Koots is just made for ski touring.

Into Bozeman after a long day behind the wheel. Rising early for a 5hr jump over to Silver Mtn which is on my pass and en route to Spokane.
Where...I just found out I'm picking up tgapp tomorrow night as he secured a negative test and realized he might need a way to get from Spokane to the hut. Then potentially the "stolen" passport jong might have a shot at showing up Friday AM to fill up my peaceful minivan.
Thanks for all the beta and ideas folks. No matter the conditions I'm pretty stoked to spend a week in a hut with a private chef and killer views.

As a Cody native born and bred I will say it ain’t what it used to be, but it’s still a lot more Wyoming than Jackson. The drive to Cody however will definitely expose you to the real Wyoming.

Didn't go through Cody...and probably not on the way back .
Good news: Tgapp is headed in tonight.
Bad new: Goats passport got swiped (he didn't lose it!) and he's gonna miss out. Sucks so fucking much. We've been looking forward to this for a many months.
Good news: Skied Silver today. Raining hard at the base. And on half the mountain. But SkyLyft showed me the goods. Super fun little area and SkiLyft is pure stoke. Thanks for the connection 2Funky/TAFKALS
Rolled into Spokane, drank a great beer (chanterelle saison FTW) and eating great food from Baba in the back of the minivan.

^^ right back at you my dude, not many people would commit to skiing seeing the conditions in the parking lot!! Ullr honors the faithful for sure. Crazy good turns up there today. Touch heavy on the lower 1/3 of the hill but it all skied really well!
Good luck on your trip — stoked I got to show you around the INW.
