Very cool ski, and the graphics on all the new stuff are great. I do sorta find it unfortunate that new models are sold out before i can even figure out where they are on the website…..

Gravity always wins...
Since there seems to be quite the interest in the FL116 here is some back story to its creation.
I approached MO last winter about a fat FL105 after a bunch on days in my 192’s. I could see the major potential as a resort pow ski slayer in the wider platform. He then brought Arild into the convo.
A few of my favorite skis in this category is the 191 Lhasa Fat, which I convinced Splat and Keith to press with a new tail rocker profile to enhance a cleaner off edge drift both at speed as well as when slower to slither through tight spaces. See the Lhasa thread for that, which we nailed it and that ski turned into the ski was meant to be.
Next was the Billy Goat, esp the redesigned 187, which was their best rendition per me as well as the Super Goat, that ski is kick ass. We wanted to improve on the hard snow performance of that ski.
Mo then mentioned he wanted to improve on the FL113 and bring some of its attributes into the equation and Arild echoed this as well. Those two evil geniuses went to work with designs and we went back and forth for about 2 months before settling on the now FL116. The flex is a nice soft’ish, a modest 8, round soft snow oriented profile that will enhance and promote a playful nature and a more pop and slash attitude through over and around chop piles with a beautiful suspension to absorb weird 3D snow and smooth out the ride. We wanted it to come clean off edge without really slowing down yet be gently tipped back on edge to finish a pow carve which they do nicely in the soft corn testing snow. Another goal was for this ski to lay rail road tracks on firm snow that we all find later on a pow day or days after, which they do amazingly well with 100% confidence as we had them on some super firm for testing day. We absolutely nailed it with this ski, we meaning MO and Arild, I was just there for my dashing good looks.
Hopefully I don’t get into any trouble as it sounds like the other build was listed already but there is a COMP version of this ski. I won’t go into much detail as they have yet to be put on snow but oh man, they should destroy inbounds pow and any chop or small adults that get in the way yet not be overly demanding in tight spaces due to the profile. So stoked for this ski and all the HL skis. I also have the R110 coming soon that I cannot wait to put on snow. Diatribe over. Hope this helps.

Fuck it, dude. The idea was yours, so take credit. And of course your dashing good looks went a long way.
The way i see these (the normy version) is as a blend of the FL105 192 AND 185(radius wise), and the FR/R110s. Can't wait to get them on snow.
Of course, I can see some bode in there, but rustlers? Kill with fire.

Thanks man but it wouldn’t happen without you two rock stars!! Your normy version is probably spot on but I have zero experience on the FR/R. Those others was my inspiration and what this ski reminds me of but more refined.

Whole lotta shenanigans going on in here. I leave for a week….

Completely unrelated… but Marshal can we get you over for Euro BBI? I want to meet the mad genius, have a beer, and ski with you.

Oh man, that would be amazing, but I’m not in a position (with family stuff) to travel. Live at the bottom of LCC and in the cottonwoods most days and stoked to try to link up for runs when folks are through this way though!
We need to hear more about the [emoji637][emoji638][emoji638]. Including will there be more made after this run and also what the heck does it do that the Hals I just bought from the outlet won’t do?
Some people have dogs to feed and such, you know.

I'll toss a couple scoops of kibble in with the Owls!
Anyhow, the overall shapes are similar. The biggest thing is 1850g carbon skis vs. 2500g freeride skis.
"Caption Obvious" is the light one will be much more pleasant walking uphill for 6k and the other is going to be much more pleasant dropping 30k from a chair lift. To optimize for those differing use-cases, the Ultra Taper has a bit deeper rocker line to better compliment touring boots and skiing untracked BC snow and has a 65m reverse camber underfoot (versus true recflect) to avoid some idiosyncrasies.
Regarding future runs, not really sure. I am doing a "reservation" thing on the site to better gauge what skis folks want. Right now I am sold out on many of the most popular skis and have a few extra on the more peripheral lengths, as is normal more often that not... but I'd like to get better at having the skis folks want, so next year's preorder will be heavily informed by what folks actually reserve. In particular, my minimums have increased, so I have to be a bit more selective next season.
Happy to fire quick responses here today/tomorrow, but need to get back to packaging and making it to the UPS/USPS stores before they close!
Oooh. Strong FOMO.
Looking at an analogue to the Q Lab/corvus/Ranger 107? Strong, damp, lower radius (18-22), big tough tail that pushes back?

I have a tracking #
My question on the ultra taper 122, is why the notes on the page say that if you want a more forgiving powder ski, go with the swallow tail.
I would think the ultra taper shape would make it easier to ski, but is it due to the flex that you recommend this?

Goal: ski in the 2018/19 season
The ski shape doesn’t lend itself to a very big sweet spot, either. They’re a fast button, not an easy button.
