2022 SHITTY FISHING PICTURES AND TALL TALES OF THINGS THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN

Welcome to the new dumping ground for 2022. Thanks to all of you for the many years of participation. This year I am personally hoping to see the following:

    - SFB's gnarly ass hands squeezing some fish
    - glamour shots of Swimmy's satellite dish and boat(s).
    - black nitrile gloves
    - Boblandia
    - one, perhaps two, posts from birdfister complaining about instagram and/or he was wherever you are first
    - screen grabs from shitty youtube videos
    - random midwest smallmouth
    - TNKen using brown trout for bait
    - something from people that live in Florida and claim to fish
    - Harry's island
    - something from Snapped because he doesn't fish anymore
    - a goddamn catfish, please

Post your random shit here, and best of luck on the water in 2022!

6 weeks? I was thinking it starts right after this storm cycle.

Looking forward to using my first 2022 use of black nitrile gloves for Roos. Damn I love those things. Got a fresh box for Xmas too.

Really digging all the YouTube stuff, Roos!

Hope to fish with some of you guys soon.

Harry. Pal. We appreciate your enthusiasm but this is not the place to repost bikini girls that you found on instagram. We all have the internet and know where to find that stuff. I'm sure you understand.

Also Darcy sucks at fly fishing. Like really bad.

I haven’t been fishing since last year, looking forward to the 4/20 on the Green shindig. Wife has been organizing old pics.

    Wish I was young again.

We casted 1/2 ounce curly tails to willing healthy fish, floated around lake Powell and all around had fucking great time with lifelong friends.

    Fuck the pic uploader.

So I recently decided, without much forethought, that I wanted to be a huger fly fisherman and get a boat. Now I can't afford/justify/handle anything substantial, so I scooped up a used 9' Fish Cat pontoon. I have boating experience, but sadly very little with oars and mostly as a passenger.

Obviously the best way to learn is trial and error, so after a leisurely breakfast with the fam I loaded my shit into the truck, stopped at safeway for a six pack and some snacks, and was at the put-in by the crack of noon. I have zero concept of how long floating a length of river takes, and just assumed that I could bang out the 7-mile stretch I had planned in a few hours while also slaying fish and sipping beers. So I stashed the pontoon a hundred yards downriver, clawed my way through a pervasive blackberry thicket back up to the road, and drove down to the take-out.

As a millennial I am confident in the fact that anything I want is a click away. Unfortunately, Lyft and Uber abide by reality which means no drivers in the rural foothills. So I put my thumb to good use in an attempt to hitch back up river. I figured that a white guy in waders wouldn't look like a sketchy drifter, but it still took about 30 minutes until I was rescued by a guy named Scott, his grandma, 3 dogs, and what seemed like half their house crammed into the car. There wasn't a door handle on the outside, but the inside one worked so I felt safe.

Finally on the river at 1:30pm. Thankfully the only short section of class II was right at the beginning - good because there hadn't been much drinking yet, but bad because I still hadn't figured out how to row good. But the boat did all the work despite my floundering, and right after I hooked a little largemouth. Unfortunately I have no idea how to land a fish, row a boat, and take a picture all at the same time. Baby steps.

6 beers and 7 miles later, no more fish. An hour in I realized I had only gone a mile, so I dedicated the rest of the river to rowing to ensure I landed before dark since I'm not as ballsy as teleee. 6 miles of forward stroke is pretty tiring, but turns out it's harder to see obstacles coming when backstroking (who knew). It was still a beautiful day on the river, and I didn't spill any beer, break any tips, take any swims, or blow past the take-out.

Driving home I had a good laff at all the fools heading uphill Friday night for the holiday weekend, until I realized my wallet fell out of the truck at the river and I had to drive all the way back. Can't win em all.

There is a certain happy-go-lucky joy in sending it with lack of experience for sure. Just figuring shit out on your own versus attempting to glean every shred of every piece of information from the interwebz.

    Solid work mang!

Way to get after it bonewrenched! Trial and error is indeed how one learns.

Maybe you can’t win them all, but you sure won a lot by finding your wallet.

Haha, thanks all! Yeah the missing wallet was a huge buzzkill after an awesome day, but finding it was a plus.

I really need to figure out the solo shuttle tactic. Maybe I'll bring a bike and do shorter drifts with more time to fish. I'd also like to figure out a good anchor rig.
