    DIY approach ski (like Drift)

Thinking of cutting the tips off of a pair of fat skis I don’t jive with and couldn’t sell for the right price. Trying to figure out what to do for the bindings. Was thinking of trying to find a pair of snowshoe bindings for free.

Just looking for ideas or experience.

The ideal is the Drift approach ski I think. The use is for pow surfing (I have shark made by a local legend)

The reason for the DIY is the price point. I have skins and a pair of skis I’m willing to cut up.

I was thinking of using the tip of the ski, cutting it off so that I have the widest part with some tip rocker, and I’ll have a good amount of edge of fewer points of potential failure. Figure that will help with breaking trail which approach skis tend to suck at.

If you just use the tips of the skis, the bindings will be mounted in an area where the core is relatively thin. You might not have enough meat there to get much purchase with screws. You could probably t-nut it to get around that problem though.

Totally. Yeah I’ll be glueing skins to the bases anyways so not too worried about that. I was thinking I’d use a t-nut and angle grind it smooth or something.

    Make junk boards?
Cut a snowboard in half. Mount bindings. Profit.
