Pro skier definition
Reading this over in the "Pro skier shoots homeless man" thread got me thinking what the definition of pro skier is.
"Quackenbush, who has a five-year-old son with a different man, was working at the time as a professional skier and stripper but was pursuing her dreams of becoming a musician, he said."
What is the minimum litmus test for labeling oneself a professional skier?
1. Receiving $50 from a friend to boost it over Chad's Gap?
2. Blogging about your skiing endeavors while being supported by your spouse?"timberridge is terminally vapid" -- a fortune cookie in Yueyang

If you make enough skiing so you don't have to work any other job year round you are a pro. If you earn a good chunk skiing but have a summer job you are semi-pro. If you just get free gear and a few thousand dollars for travel money you just have a nice side job skiing.

Ever notice how nobody is a pro stripper? It's always waitress/stripper, actress/stripper, musician/stripper, now "pro" skier/stripper...

The Powel Movement has had a few pros on that have opined on this.
Based on the no other job thing, most of the guys in the ski movies that wait tables etc aren't "pro" but semi - pro.www.dpsskis.com

formerly an ambassador for a few others, but the ski industry is... interesting.

What was Blurred?
Then based on this, this chick is taking some liberties with the definition?
Reminds me of the old musicians joke. What's the difference between two pizzas and a musician (pro skier?) The pizzas can feed a family of four."timberridge is terminally vapid" -- a fortune cookie in Yueyang

This is not hard.
If you get income from skiing for entertainment. Even if it is partial income. You are a professional.

You can tell a pro skier by his business card….

I think I read somewhere (probably here) that even most of the "pros" one idolizes in the movies, actually pay to be featured in said ski movie.
Basically outside of the Shiffrin's, Olofson's and Hall's of the world, outside of some free gear and some modest competition money, most are being funded by sponsors otherwise known as Mom and Dad.
Then there are my personal favorites, ski instructors who think they are the bees knees for basically taking 20 minutes to talk amongst themselves 5 times per run.Live Free or Die

So, like male porn stars sorta?
TGR corporate could answer our questions re: this. They make films and stuff. Lord knows I've never paid money to watch a ski movie--the free trailers are quite enough for me.

I’m today’s world of skiing (and snowboarding), if you signed a contract, make more than a couple thousand dollars a year, and are NOT an Instagram influencer, you can be considered pro. There is no money in snow sports at the moment. There are plenty of veteran people who have been in many feature movies, listed as pro for major companies, and still have to work in the summer.

I see the names of some of those pro lawn darts showing up in aviy stuff so that is still pro IMO
IME if you make your own cards from a template you stole off the internet, printed on copier paper with boring script and cut up not very exactly with scisssors people will remember that way more than a fancy business cardLee Lau - xxx-er is the laziest Asian canuck I know
