re: your simulator experience, it's tough to learn something from the middle. It'd be like learning to do linked parallel turns with properly timed pole plants before learning to snowplow or hockey stop.

Never nailed it. Two "crash landings" and one dubious "you are gonna pay for the landing gear revamp" incident.
Maybe that was Trevors problem as well?
Yeah, I could almost buy into the idea of a meathead GoPro YouTuber having an engine/fuel problem and instantly saying "fucks sake, landing normally is hard enough, I can't even imagine doing it with a plane that isn't working properly... at least I know how to skydive!" You know, setting aside all of the other obvious bullshit relating to his "emergency".

    Umm. Yup.

The reason why I ended up in that seat was my quip of "oh, I have flown some computer sims before".

    - "Oh yeah?"
    -"FML".

I imagined that being seated in a sim can be daunting ( had few side seat hours with the said type, as a passanger, not flying ), but when you are suddenly seated in The seat, with a half a dozen pair of eyes on your neck see in what spectacular way you will fail...well...that incident goes into my personal Top 10 of "most uncomfortable things you have done today" things.

That also led me to the revelation that if the flight attendants are suddenly asking "if someone can fly", I will hit the bong/trolley at that very moment.

The floggings will continue until morale improves.

Late to the thread but it's insanity. Agree with most of the points from the thread - it's laughable to wear a parachute "just in case." What a jackass.

    Trevor Jacob’s “Plane Crash”

The FAA has found that Trevor Jacob, a daredevil YouTuber who posted a video of himself last year parachuting out of a plane that he claimed had malfunctioned, purposely abandoned the aircraft and allowed it to crash into the Los Padres National Forest in Southern California.

In a letter to Mr. Jacob on April 11, the F.A.A. said he had violated federal aviation regulations and operated his single-engine plane in a “careless or reckless manner so as to endanger the life or property of another.”

The agency said it would immediately revoke Mr. Jacob’s private pilot certificate, effectively ending his permission to operate any aircraft….

    Excellent closure.

The article is behind paywall, does it mention if any charges will be pressed?

The F.A.A. does not have the ability to prosecute; it can only revoke and suspend certificates and issue fines. The agency ordered Mr. Jacob to surrender his private pilot certificate and said he could face “further legal enforcement action” if he did not do so, including a civil penalty of up to $1,644 for each day that he did not return it.

Took a plea for an offense that can carry up to 20 years.

Jacob pleaded guilty to one count of destruction and concealment with the intent to obstruct a federal investigation, a crime that carries a maximum penalty of 20 years behind bars, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California said in a news release.
For trying for a freaking wallet ad.

According to the agreement, Jacob had intended to use the video for a sponsorship deal with an unnamed company that made wallets.

No way he actually does 20 years right? 6 months max at a white boy country club with his own "cell", good food, TV, etc etc.
