    My son goes here.

    http://barber.luxburlington.com/

Hipster barber. I haven't been. It's half an hour away, parking sucks, and by the time they trim my beard, holy fuck thats expensive. Plus with covid coming back with a vengeance, not sure I wanna go to Burlington and take my mask off.

I cut my own. Do my own fades. I used to do it to save money. I keep doing it now to save time. I’m comfortable in business settings that occasionally include suits.

I had a horrible incident with an improperly attached guard a few years ago, and went professional for a few months, but got tired of the hassle and now I just make sure the guard is on there correctly. No more bald spots since then.
    focus.

Just got my first professional haircut since before covid. I had been DIY. Went back to my old barber shop. Prices went up substantially, my old barber had left and I got an apprentice (who actually did do a great job), and their schedule is booked weeks in advance. So I'll probably just return to DIY except for special occasions. Bummer, always liked the place but between the price and the difficult scheduling, I just can't justify going back. Guess they'll be fine without my $$ though.

Another partly bald home haircut here. As a friend who cut my hair in college used to say “hair grows and blood clots” so don’t worry about DIY. The Mrs. has been doing mine for years. Since Covid I’ve had to cut hers which is new. I’m getting better at it. YouTube and practice. Good thing she’s got straight hair and a simple cut.

Put me in the cheap haircut column. I’ve been shaving my head for 29 years now. I never did have great hair……

my husband likes my haircuts best, which is convenient on the price but it’s not exactly my favorite activity.
I on the other hand get stupidly expensive haircuts so I guess it balances out

I am still emotionally scarred from an incident in 4th grade when our gym teacher looked at me funny one day and asked, "Who cuts your hair?" I said my mom. He walked away chuckling. I didn't fully understand it at the time but looking at pictures of my 4th grade self now, with a mopish shoulder-length bowl cut, I wonder how my mom could have done that to an innocent kid.

$30 haircuts for me. It's the least I can do for hair that's stayed with me for the long run.

My boys usually go to the cheap place but wife trying to tell my youngest go to the local hipster joint for 3x the price.....
That's because your wife wants to fuck the hipster hair dresser.

When I was bout 16 - 22 I went to a hair dresser who hung her ample titties in my face while she washed my hair. I'm talking motor boatin close. Being young and dumb, I thought that was normal.

Don't you guys watch those Barbershop movies and think how much fun that looks? Not surprisingly, black people spend nine times as much on haircare as non-blacks:

This thread certainly seems to confirm that. I'm guessing this crowd doesn't go in for shampoo that costs more than $5 a bottle, either.

I want to cross reference the DIY folk from this thread with the wine enthusiast thread. Maybe if I start cutting my own hair I can afford fancy wines by the case. Lol.

The difference between these two time periods is monumental when we are talking about hair cuts.

That comment is likely true for most of us. My girls spend a fuck ton on their hair.

Like shaving and using shampoo, paying for haircuts is one of those absurd and unnecessary conventions I wish I’d abandoned earlier.
I've been trying for years to get my wife to give me a cut. What's your secret?

Shoulder length and bowl cut does not compute.

    Shoulder length is shoulder length.

Bowl is where they put a bowl on your head and cut around the rim, buzzing everything below.

Seems like we need photo evidence of what you’re talking about. You know.

    For science.

Holy shit. I can't get her to cut mine, let alone allow me to get near hers or my daughters. I do cut my 2 son's.

I was a long hair for many years. If I could snap my fingers and go back to ponytail+ length I'd do it in a second.

Had a college Ice Climbing prof / deadhead tell me once that you can't trust anyone who isnt or hasn't at one time been a long hair.

That's right. I got to take Ice Climbing for college credit.

The problem is the awful 8 months in between.. still can't figure out how to manage that time while still appearing respectable.

    $50 a pop checking in.

Main reason is its a friend whose a single mom trying to run a high end salon and I want to support her. It was also $30 when I started going to her a decade ago. My hair is very hard to cut and she does a great job. No qualms and still cheaper than my wife’s cuts.

A bowl cut that was then allowed to grow to shoulder length is more accurate. It looked so ridiculous that one mom actually called my mom and said I "ruined" the class picture because of my hair. God's honest truth.

And you'll never see those pics. NEVER!!
