    It was fantastic.

    Holiday Cocktails.

Do you know what’s good? Normal cocktails. Just because it’s December doesn’t mean you need to put nutmeg in your drinks.

Why the fuck would you mix Johnny Blue? Might as well burn money for heat.

Over Thanksgiving the rule was for everyone to bring a mixed drink. I usually drink whisk(e)y neat, or wine so I'm not much of a mixed drink fan. I wanted something easy to make so I went with the cosmopolitan since the cranberry juice seemed to fit the holiday meal. I was mixing drinks for quite a while until dinner. I went with pure cranberry juice rather than cranberry juice cocktail and added a simple syrup (sugar or monkfruit/erythritol based) if the person wanted.

    Is this an "official" cocktail?

2-3 oz. bourbon (right now drinking Hudson Baby Bourbon)
    2-3 splashes bitters
    1 maraschino cherry
    1 (ish) tsp cherry juice

Sort of like a Manhattan w/out vermouth. I've been drinking this lately in a law ball glass or a 2oz long shot glass and it is delicious!

Also, love a Canadian "perfect" Manhattan:

    2oz Crown
    2-3 splashes bitters
    Maraschino cherry
    1/2 oz. sweet vermouth
    1/2 oz. dry vermouth.

    Also, delicious

The first one is basically an old fashioned without the orange and using cherry juice as the sweetener.

I've seen them listed as pre-prohibition OF in more than one place when a fruit syrup is used instead of a simple.

Can be all sorts of flavors. An “alcohol infused with botanicals” if you will.

the granny’s drinking 3oz of liquor at a go ain’t doing mixed drinks like that.

most bitters have a bunch of ingredients, I think angostura includes some, but also makes an angostura orange with more orange flavors
