Can I claim an abandoned vehicle?
There is a Jeep abandoned near me on public property. After seeing it for months I finally went and looked at it. Could be stolen and dumped but I can't understand why it wouldn't have been recovered by now as it is so obviously abandoned. Could be the owner dropped dead from Covid as there is uncashed paychecks on the inside I shit you not.
Now I have the means to tow it, light it on fire, or roll it off a cliff but it is a decent Jeep for off-road only.
I could try to track down the owner if he is alive. I could call the cops but fuck them they hate paperwork and it will end up at an auction where they make money to buy ammo to shoot poor people. I could apply for the title and use that Jeep for fun offroading. Again I could just take it and do that but having paperwork is preferred.
Anyone got advise on getting this abandoned Jeep back in good hands? Anyone applied for a missing title?

Or he's dead. And you've got his jeep and his paychecks.

Is that a cop cock sucker flag I spot up high on the fender? Not likely in jail, but dead of covid not out of the question

There are no license plates on it BTW. I didn't get the VIN # yet

I’m not saying Simple murdered anyone, but this seems like a pretty solid backstory he’s creating.

Tow it, trailer it and use the fuck outta it.
I had a tenant who died (drank himself to death and no family FWIW) leaving his Jeep parked on my lawn and I'm still regretting not just taking the thing to Mexico.

It wouldn’t be the first time a printed TGR thread showed up in a courtroom

LOL
Seems like some states have very different rules on even removing vehicles from public lands. Here in CA an eagle scout wanted to remove three ancient abandoned cars from an ecological reserve as a scout project. He went through proper channels and was only allowed to remove one I think. Two of them could not be identified (no vin, plates) so the couldn't do whatever paperwork was required to remove them. Seems fucked up if you can't identify it you can't remove it but this is CA. I'm sure it's easier in other states. Doubt you can just claim a vehicle for personal use, but who knows? Maybe the owner would sign it over, or if reported stolen you could buy it from the insurance company for pennies on the dollar. That works for bikes sometimes.

Might have been Mime vs. Cletus. Details feel distant. Just steal the Jeep. “Claim” it if that vernacular works better.

I've taken a pic and put cars on clist a few times just because I'm tired of looking at them.
They disappear in a couple days..

I am joking obv. How do you even start to claim something that clearly isn’t yours?

Can I claim an abandoned vehicle?
I imagine you should first figure out what state the vehicle is in. Then Google the respective law associated with abandoned vehicles and titles in said state. Then maybe attempt to figure out what city the vehicle is in. Maybe Google that too…
Or just ask people on TGR.

There's a VW Golf parked on the street up the road from here, it's been there over a year but it's parked legally and the registration is current so nobody will do anything about it. I'm hoping to get some ideas here.

I read somewhere that possession is 9/10’s of the law.
