Austin is a pretty fucking casual town. So, if they are specifying “festival casual” as the dress code, they are not expecting black tie. Take a look at pictures of ACL or SXSW to get an idea of what goes, which is pretty much anything.

The main thing to adjust for is the weather, You haven’t said what time of the year this is happening. If it’s Dec through March, I’d probably stick with long pants. In the hotter months, I wouldn’t hesitate to wear shorts. You need the ventilation. I know a guy who showed up to his daughter’s wedding in shorts.

My take is what you would wear to go out to a nice restaurant that does not require jacket and ties. They want you to be comfortable

Because so many of us have been to billionaire bar mitzvahs? (My 60 something psychiatrist cousin did show up at his niece's bat mitzvah in a tank top, and had to be escorted off the dance floor for getting too familiar with the 13 year old girls.)

Folsom Street Fair wear might be an option, though not necessarily acceptable.

I’ve always been more of a Festival Formal man myself.

Austin?! Good news! EVERY restaurant sells T-shirts promoting the restaurant. Oh so many to recommend I’ll start with El Arroyo.

I have a couple of Chuy’s shirts I’d loan ya. Including one with a fish that has Bevo horns and says University of TexMex, which nobody reads to say “TexMex”

    Is your cousin Michael Dell?

Naked with bongo drums unless someone beat me to it.

Met that dude back when he was in college just before ‘Angels in the Outfield’ as he was dating my friends sister. Nice as hell dude especially considering I was just a 14 yo kid.

My cousin and her husband, both McCombs MBA peeps, just retired at like age 50. So much money in that city these days. I have a crew down there if you need green. Have fun!!!
