    New TGR flick

    https://youtu.be/ifbKVYn4UCg

Despite posting on their forum, I’ve been pretty down on tgr flicks for a while. Seems like they’ve just settled in on a formula, they’re like the Warren Miller gnar bro film. But this new flick about Indy resorts is really cool. Props to TGR for doing this.

Thanks for posting this. That made my week and brought me back to learning to ski with friends as a kid.

It’s a great flick about local small hills that refuse to be taken over. They provide stoke for families and locals Can’t wait to try a few this year

I need to go to Utah.
    Utah?
Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Thanks BCSAR and POWMOW Ski Patrol for rescues

That was a great way to spend 30 minutes. Proud of Dowork and all they have accomplished at Magic!

Went to school in Missoula in the 90s. First time I went to Lost Trail I showed up with a debit card but they only took cash. There was about a foot of fresh snow. Guy at the window, pretty sure he was the owner, hands me an envelope with the address on it and says “send me a check when you get home.” It’s fun to hit the big places once in a while but I love skiing the indies.

Definitely worth a watch. I do think you can still find soul and make great memories with the family at the larger resorts, but that is probably just my experience from living close to one. I certainly don’t find it cold, uninviting or over the top corporate.

No matter where you are at, I always just love how happy everyone is to be out and the stoke of an overnight storm.

    That was excellent.

loved the NE ski museum guy around 5:20 talking about how skiing hasn’t always been a upper income thing. It’s bugged me for years how this sport we all love has been co-opted into another upper-middle-class-plus bauble, for 5 day a year folks (Btw that’s not to say the money by itself is bad, training at copper last week my kid hung out w some boarding school racers that rip). For too many, the ski VACATION takes priority over the SKIING. When my kids were little, I made them put their own boots on even if we were in a hotel with a boot room and attendants - so they knew it’s a sport not a lifestyle.

a hotel with a boot room and attendants? that's a thing?

and your way of teaching your kids to "keep it real" was to stay at that hotel but not let them use the attendants? lol

Couple thoughts - 1, sure, figured I’d catch shit for that - but you miss the bigger point about lifestyle vs sport. We’re all privileged to do this shit we love and it bugs me that it’s increasingly less available to those without economic means.
2, my wife sells corporate group travel (incentives etc, as in, “sell more cars, win a ski trip”). So we’ve been able to tag along and stay at those fancy hotels for free or super cheap. And yes, I do try, as I suspect you would, to teach my kids about privilege, self-sufficiency and other life lessons.

This is why I enjoyed this years WM film more than some. It had local ski areas, small bumps that have more soul than megacorpski

It's cool to see double black flips off terrain only accessed by a bird, but that's not what 98% of skiers actually do

I hope Plake keeps doing his down home tour type of event

    That’s a great story.
If you never paid he loses nothing. But his offer made your day and keeps the stoke!
    PS. I hope you paid.

I’m also a big fan of the Indies. They captured what Magic is all about pretty good. I want to add that Stoke The Fire- TGR’s current “big release” -is very good too. I went to a showing, met Kai and his dad (and mom), and had a really good time. If there’s a tour stop near you, go.

Very good. I'm sort of old and over watching standard ski porn these days so I really like these sorts of films. This was a fun watch.

This is a great film. And yeah the stoke at these places are incredible. It’s a big part of why I decided to stick around in Spokane long term. Within a couple hours there are a bunch of small Indy resorts. Do any of them individually stand up against a giant resort? No. But if you add them all together it sure does.

So awesome (so far). I just interrupted my watching at the 10:17 mark to come back here… that kid riding the magic carpet has his helmet on backwards?!?!?! Something so wholesome about keeping that in the movie!

    Two kids riding a chairlift…

Kid one: Such an awesome day.
    Kid two: It is.
    Kid one: The bluebird.
    Kid two: No clouds.
Kid one: Yeah. That's what a bluebird means.

    So awesome!
