Dude that’s so brutal. And to have it happen while doing trail work - those thieves have some next level bad karma built up from this act.

My bike. Sharon (my wife's) bike. I assume they've been stripped for parts to sell. The frames are quite unique so there's a chance the thieves will sell them out of the region.

I’ve heard of a lot of bikes heading to BC from Alberta as of late. From there not too sure. Will keep a look out in Calgary

Thanks all. We put up posters, got some video and photo of a suspicious guy (who's also a mountain-biker and trailbuilder) who was in the vicinity of the bikes at the same time they were stolen from the trails and also witnessed on a Chromag Ti bike too small for him.

We then put up Stolen Bikes posters which kept getting ripped down. Then got photos of the same suspect witnesses with the too-small bike ripping down the Stolen Bikes pictures.

It's all a series of coincidences and circumstantial of course but many people IDed the suspect. He'll have some explaining to do. Perhaps the heat and shame was too much for him as the cops got an anonymous email giving the location of bikes.

So far we've found one. Parted out and ready to be sold but at least the Ti frame is good. Still hiking lots to try to find the other.

Lots of support from bikers / hikers and our neighbours. Nobody seems to like bike thieves.

Karma bank definitely worked outClick image for larger version.

Good for you for not showing up at his house/apartment/truck. You have more restraint than me.

The suspect thief has a history of violence. He's threatened to fight other trailbuilders in the past. He's also stolen tools too but that's more an aside

I wanted the bikes back; not to get my head caved in by some nutter. And if we made the frames so well known that he couldn't fence them, then so be it

It was well hidden a ways off the trail. We'd never have found it (edit) without the anon emailed location.

Shar and I had to fish it out of the stump piece by piece. It'd been there for a while. Guess the thief didn't want to be in possession of stolen goods, wanted to cache it there and then sell when the heat died down

crazy. I would have never thought to look around the forest for the bike to be parted out like that.

Crazy story. But glad to hear there was at least a partial recovery. Hopefully the rest of the stuff is found and the police do their thing.
