This is no whataboutism. China does awful shit and our inability to clean our own house emboldens them.

    Chinese Tennis Star Disappears

Kanter isn’t a great example here. Dude is very hypocritical if you consider his home turf and some other stuff he supports.

I mean fuck China for sure, but Kanter is not the guy.

Lebron having to deal with a second string center calling him out is funny. I think it fucked with Lebron’s game tonight against the Celtics. Not advocating for Kanter joining the UN. It’s nice to see someone not afraid to go against the grain.

Photo of Shuai posted without context by communist paper.

I’m sure she’s totally fine and free to come and go and speak and not being held against her will in an undisclosed location at all.

Man those commie pricks gotta be real upset by now.

Maybe she’s getting her cybernetic implants implanted, that’s why she’s out of the public eye

Naw; takes time for the lobotomy/electro-shock burns to heal.

And implanting implants seems ....... redundant.

Right? Nothing goes better with dictatorial rage spurred by mouthy proletariat than the finer things in life.

Anyone else laugh at how this control-freak government is like one big Baghdad Bob? What human rights issues, what missing people? I’ve never heard of any of that.

I assume Xi is just trying to make a statement about the Saudi-level power they have over us. If we don’t give a shit about beheading dissidents, why should some missing celebrity athlete be cause for concern?

2021 was the Vietnamese delegation to th3 climate change conference stopping off at Marx’s grave and spending $2k for a gold steak from salt bae

its a flex but like lots of things maybe more internal than external. Xi’s big OE was a month in Iowa in the 80s.

And Julian Assange is a dangerous man who deserves to be tortured.

At least he hasn't been moved to a CIA black site. Or Guantanamo.

Agreed that it's more of an internal flex. Showing the commoners that even the wealthiest and most prominent private citizens live entirely at the privilege of the state.

This is pretty cut and dry. If Lebron kidnapped this Chinese tennis star, he shouldn't go to the Olympics. Do the crime, do the time.

Well. After watching the biggest superpower in the world devolve into 30's level partisan rancor culminating in Jan. 6 has to inspire them not to allow a stateless .1% to operate from their society. The Maoists know revolt. The trick now is to spread the butter so they can somehow create a middle class.

There are undeniable advantages to authoritarian regimes. However...

Has there ever been an authoritarian regime that wasn't a kleptocracy?

Hmmm. That's going to take some research. But, they're trying.

They're making the Evergrande CEO sell his personal assets to keep his company afloat. Won't help much, he may be worth a few billion, and the company owes hundreds of billions, but, it's a good sign. Imagine the CEOs of our banks being forced to do the same in '08.
