Tales from Cascadia on YouTube
Who's watched the new "Tales from Cascadia" from the Blank Collective (aka Salomon Athletes)?
I know a lot goes into these kinds of productions, but I felt it captured the "soul" of the kind of skiing a lot of us seek for. I think it plays well on the bigger screen and not just on a phone. Really outstanding use of stationary cameras and drones.
Some great big face aspects and lots and lots of pillows. Hoji and a few other non-Sallie athletes even show up to play with friends.
They made me want to try some Salomon Blanks and to be 20-years younger! In constant pursuit of the perfect slarve...

I thought the skiing was sick the editing was trash they kept switching out of pov at the most exciting parts of the lines and cutting to drone shots that were way too far away . Soundtrack was almost unbearable but the terrain kept me intrigued.

sir vic shared this the other day. i though the copious amount of pow skiing great but goddamn the editing and incessant camera angle toggles drove me nuts. the swirling drone angles in the first segment easily the worst but also really didn't like how crux of lines being skied seemed to get lopped out and it felt jerky.
like regular porn, not going to say I still didn't enjoy it on the whole but felt like it could have been edited to flow so much better.

also, call me old fashioned but I always enjoy know where each segment is located and that was also absent.

I watched the premier a couple nights ago. Agreed on the editing being so frustrating. It was hard to watch.
There were so many awesome POV shots that were cut after 1 or 2 seconds. And the drone footage was all just circling around people skiing- no follow shots or hero shots from a high point looking straight on the face that was being skied.
I don't want to take anything away from the people involved- it's amazing to get free content on Youtube from Salomon, but I wish it was easier to watch.

I would agree with this perspective. I think the editing demonstrated the limits of the camera tech involved or more likely, the operators.
I suppose it is a simplistic point of view, but I loved that there was so much awesome skiing that was either accessed from that old snowcat or via skinning. I expected it to be of a much lower quality since it was free.In constant pursuit of the perfect slarve...

Agreed on the access being a cool part of the story.
It's also worth noting that Alexi Godbout was one of the editors. It's great to see some professional ski athletes on the Salomon team venture into filmmaking and editing (Mike Douglas is the other skier that comes to mind), even if I was frustrated by the editing in this particular film.

Agreed the wide overhead circling shots almost felt animated they were so far away and smoothed out with vid editing. But the stoke is real

Huh, kind of a bummer to read all this…. I’m still excited to watch, all these cats are so good and their offerings last 2 years have been f n dope! Love the talent and character of this squad! Absolutely insane how much content there is to watch this year but these cats have always been a stand out for me. Cinematography and editing is absolutely key, and I feel like a lot of folks miss the mark, quite surprised to hear these guys did this year, but the work it takes to produce this kind of content is nutz
Fear, Doubt, Disbelief, you have to let it all go. Free your mind!

The editing is like some 80s Japanese robot Manga. Where is my epilepsy medication?

I don't want to pile on but I have to agree about the editing.
Call me old fashioned but I just want to see the line from top to bottom from one angle. Either the heli angle (drone) or the helmet cam, but not cutting back and forth.
The circling drone shots make me dizzy.
Definitely some sick skiing though.

It was also weird to see the Tahoe section with no mention of the slide that almost took Josh’s cousin’s life. That section was awesome though.
And I thought Marchand’s 3s were all pretty edgy
Also if you haven't seen this yet don't let the editing comments stop you. It's only really prevalent on the big mountain lines. Not so much with the pow and pillow segments since those are already short. Overall it's definitely worth watching.Last edited by powdork; 11-14-2021 at 10:07 AM.

^looking through it though, I'm not sure it was the same zone (so maybe not even the same group, time of year, etc.)
It would have been nice if they could have snuck Cody in or fit the Fifty in somehowpowdork.com - new and improved, with 20% more dork.

^^ Same time of year but I now recall they likely weren’t filming that day, since I know one of their main camera guys and he wasn’t there when it happened.

Based on these comments, I expected worse, but it's still very stoke worthy with some super deep pow segments and great skiing.

The horrible circling drone shit was mostly just in the first 10 minutes or so (same with the excessive jump cutting), then seemed to go away once the film settled in a bit.
I thought the soundtrack was fine.I ski 135 degree chutes switch to the road.
