I live in by far the most Portuguese (and Brazilian, Cape Verdean, Azorean, etc. etc.) area of the country and there's this high end Portuguese grocer/importer about 15 miles from where I'm sitting. Maybe I could snag some stuff for some folks if they aren't in a hurry about it. They have an absolute shitton of it.

    https://portugaliamarketplace.com/co...ns/tinned-fish

Probably a lot easier and more timely for people to just order it though.

Anyone watch the documentary posted somewhere upthread about a Portuguese tinned fish company? One old lady's job was to put one peppercorn in every can, by hand. If that's not worth $30 I don't know what could be. Take my money!!!

Also I don't see Gen-Z taking these jobs over when all the old factory ladies die, we are going to see a lot of unfilled Peppercorn Placer jobs soon IMO.

It's a crazy store. They have a whole big room, like 40 x 20, all that's in it is bacalao (salt cod) from Iceland, Greenland, Canada, Portugal, etc. etc.. like 20 varieties. Big damn stacks of it. Not my bag but it's impressive.

Yup. Marking it for later after the holidays, I want to try some of those cured meats. The recent leg of cured lamb didn't go over so well with the girlfriend but at least she tried it.

I love bacalhau. I would kill to get some planks to make bacalhau à bras. Definitely an acquired taste (and the room where it's in, I'm sure, smells like death), but bacalhau is delicious.

I guessed on the spelling, obviously. Hey I wasn't too far off. The room has a big plate glass window to the rest of the store and you have to go through like an airlock to get in there. And yeah it doesn't smell too good in there.

When I was around 10 years old I visited extended family who had a much bigger palate than I did at the time. They had Prince sardines in the red packaging in their larder and I thought it was the grossest thing. It became a running joke the whole trip. Which kept running when I got back home and found a pack of sardines in my luggage.

I doubt it unless she read it in this thread, I don't think I've mentioned the place before. If you like sausage they make a lot of Portuguese-style sausage around here, Portugalia carries Michael's, which is made right around the corner from them. Chourico and linguica are the two most popular around here. You're almost as likely to see linguica on a breakfast menu as bacon.

Olive oil is a bargain in that place. We've gotten some really good ones for short money.

Paging Phall and other SLC mags to the white courtesy phone. Tons of 1/2 off conservas at Caputo's in SLC right now. Ended up getting 5 tins of Ventresca at half off just because the box was damaged.

Downtown. Great selection when I was there last night but they sometimes get cleaned out fast.
