Part of, but not all of the reasons why backcountry skiing exists is the relative cost savings when compared to left-served. Sometimes, some people don't wish to pay for lift tickets. Now you add some of that part back in for a managed area with no lifts. Will skiesr pay? I would, but that's splitting an already small market.
Personally, I love the idea, but there may not be enough of my type of skier to make such a thing viable when that demographic of skier will just go down the road and ski Forest Service land. For free.

Building character since 1967(?)
Last year one day earlish season the grooming on the lower-lower mtn under Chair 1 was hilarious. It was a single track wide groomed, 3' nearly vertical drop to another groom track, to a totally missed 5' refrozen rubble patch, to another groom track. Made me smile.

All of the above. And you really can't charge a ton to let people walk up your hill. With staffing, insurance (gotta be major), infrastructure etc, it's hard to see how it pencils as a business. They do offer avy and basic touring training and instruction which generates something, but it can't be much.
That said, my GF has friends involved there and they seem to be plugging along, and I think they even had some investors aboard early on. Haven't heard much about it for a while tho.

Mission does have some pretty good grooming. Can’t think of anywhere else that a casual 90mph has been recorded in the pnw. Some dude from Alpental that was visiting.

Pretty sure it wasn’t pipedream. Not Norseman either. Some ex-racer.

Username was there when Donnelly tried the speed record off of Adams. I don’t think he hit 90 mph though. Not groomed either though.

That’s the classic randonnee skier. The modern Backcountry Enthusiast just spent $5k on backcountry equipment and would likely be happy to pay a few dollars to figure out how their shifts work at the base of your freshly groomed uphill track before buying a $6 latte and $7 cinnamon roll in your warming cafe. Would probably be willing to spend another few $$$ to park their $100k adventure rig in your plowed lot before realizing they forgot to hit the grocery store on the way up and getting a $22 sandwich and a few $12 beers for the evening.
$6 Latte and $15 omelette in the morning too.
