That was intentional. Patrol closed lucky shot briefly and ski cut powder bowl, hoping to get some releases with the rapidly increasing temps this afternoon. They ran Chair 6 to get patrol to the top.

I think that's the end of the Blewett season. A couple inches of new fell on Monday, but it never froze last night and it all turned in to a glop fest by mid morning today. Mission looked like it faired better?

Anyone skiing Crystal tomorrow? Snow forecast for tonight and tomorrow. Looking at heading down but may be solo if I can't round anyone up to come with me.

Yup, lots of friends in tow tomorrow though. Would love to meet up for a few laps. I should be easy to spot with an orange jacket and purple Woodsmans.

Hope you went and had a great time! Not quite up to skiing strength and still in post-COVID recovery over the past weeks. Post a report so I can live vicariously.

Classic Crustal dust on crust. They ran the gondy, Rex and Green Valley. Pretty big crowd, B lot 1/3+ full.

Coverage is amazing, a few dirt smears on Lucky Shot, Breakover is done, Iceberg was icy bumps. Not much grooming.

Upper frontside was crunchy, mid to lower mountain skied better than the top. Best skiing up high was Westface through No Visibility, Doors were marginal with chunktastic debris.

I went over to FQ side for a few laps of hot pow meadowskipping.

They've done some massive snow moving around the FQ areas, like gigantic ditches all over cutting up the 5+feet of snowpack?. Maybe they're trying to melt out a path?

PNW 2021/2022 Season! La Niña ahead!

So, when some of you folks come out to ski Silverstar, the bottom mile or so is going to be a lot of La Graving over rocks and shit. A week ago I didn’t take my skis off, but I don’t care. Should be mostly dirt now. Fire made it pretty cool.Click image for larger version.

Did the fire clear out the underbrush in the Silverstar creek drainage all the way to the road? That seems like it could be a pretty big improvement actually.

Early morning laps @ Crustal were decent, West Face had pillowed in with enough fatpow to cover the rubble beneath. The 6+ inches there continued to ski well even after it got tracked.

Frontside, not so, lots of frozen debris under a light cover of hot pow by 10:00. Breakover is done, but Sunnyside is holding despite the chunks and progressive mank. Sun is not helping.

The advertised running of Rex didn't happen, so it was Groin Valley or t2bs on the gondy. Big line at GV around 10:30 that evaporated by 11:00, similar with gondy line.

Edge of Bull Run is holding, Deer Fly is marginal and Stump farm has one bare strip that's easy to ski around. Lower mountain skied better honestly than the frosted chuntastics on the frontside. No smudge marks on Lucky Shot yet.

Visibility was great until the clouds rolled in about 1:00.

Saw a few of ye auld guard but the love of lot4 is absent.

Had a great Surf n Turf day on the Olympic peninsula.

Dropped the kid at school, then made a quick stop to take pictures at the parking garage of the new hospital on the way out of town. It has one of the best views of the eastern side of the range.

    Silverdale skylines

Continued out to the Pen, vibing out to the purr of the wagon and the classic rock station out of Victoria. Canadian radio commercials are amusing; lumberjack festivals and highschool sports. The beer selection is on-point at the Jamestown S'Klallam gas station. This is just one of like 6 displays:

Called the HRR conditions hotline which told of gate delays due to overnight snow. No problem, perfect timing to pull off at one of the biking options. Parked at a State Park property at 0830 and rode through some excellent forest down to the beach, about 7 miles round. There is a really cool patch of Pacific Madrone on a SE facing hillside... so much more open and bright than the coniferous majority.

Then rallied up to the gate which had opened 15 minutes prior. Perfect.

Set a chill track through my favorite patch of Alaska Yellow Cedar and made a couple laps. There was 3 inches of body butter on consolidated but nicely edgeable rain kernel. The cloud was hanging on the north side so there wasn't vis for those treeless rad runs out there, but they can wait for another day.

The high peaks are still absolutely plastered.
