dont forget that every last eastsider is a Gadsen flag waving, red hat wearing, lib hater. Also, i hear that weed is illegal east of the crest- sheriff culp didnt get the legalization memo.

the burritos are certainly better than the west side though. So theres that. And thats a big, that.

    It's like, not though.

Also I have an out-of-towner hoping to log some hiking miles, anyone know if the onshore flow cleared the smoke out of rainy pass & environs?

The Methow has been shitty the last few days but I've got no recent intel on the high country.

Don’t forget the bears and snakes and mountain lions. They are drawn by the burritos.

Dangerous country here. Probably best to stick to Bellevue and Issaquah.

Hard to predict the smoke location right now. It’s around, but moves depending on wind direction or something.

Also, 400 cars parked on the road at 2:00 at Rainy Pass.
(That’s about a mile in either direction.)

Oh yeah, be sure to hashtag northcascadesnp and northcascadesnationalpark on the ig.

Weekend prior the smoke was really, really bad by Diablo from active fires N-NW of Ross lk and we nearly pulled the plug, but most of it wasn't filtering east toward Rainy Pass and remained in the low valleys (but full insanity parking on the highway ... no words) and was nice and clean over by Cutthroat.

From the Larch Madness at Rainy last year. 2:32, ~400 cars, this year’s the same. I was giving a ride to Seattle for some through-hikers and that’s the background dialogue.

I did my annual chants larch march last Friday and was surprised at the lack of crowds... Maybe the threat of smoke kept people away? It was minimally smokey up high though. I haven't seen it that slow at this time of year in a while. I guess everyone was up at maple pass.

I went last Monday and thought the same thing. I did out and back from Colchuck and preferred that to exiting Snow Lake. Larches weren't quite yellow when I went but should be on fire now. Hardly any smoke up high.

Did you happen to see the airlift for the guy who got pinned by a boulder near Lake Viviane? The report mentions strong winds making it difficult to fly--I have a buddy who was up there Monday and he said the wind was stripping the needles off the larches.

EDIT: oops you said Monday last week, this was all from Monday this week.

Smoke wasn’t bad at rainy pass yesterday, but you could smell it. Larch szn had a mile of cars on the hwy outside the maple pass/cutthroat parking lots at 3pm though.

    Terrible smoke in Diablo/Ross lake.

It’s amazing how people flock to the same couple of places to view larches. There’s so many other spots than the usual bucket list locations

Lake 22 is one that stump’s me. Cool lake but the cloud of human locust that depends on it every weekend is unreal.

One of the very few good things about being/getting old is I’ve done a lot of these things before they were beyond popular. I’m really glad I did them. I mean, they’re popular for a reason.

Anyone been up by Snoqualmie pass today? Air map looks good up there even though it’s nasty in Seattle so thinking of taking my son up hiking tomorrow if it clear.

North Bend / Snoqualmie was the clearest it’s been in over a week today. Checked the pass webcams earlier and looked beautiful.

I think the smoke headed down to sea level with the breeze.

Tomorrow should be similar and I’d bet a beautiful day up there.

Thanks for confirming - I saw the green on the map east of Fall City just now. The smoke has been driving me nuts today.
