I was going to say the same thing. February is much better. January is normally our driest month.

Everyone always says this but January is actually top 3 wettest month in the PNW. November the wettest, and December and January right behind. Yes, we often get a period of high pressure in January. And yes, pineapple expresses seem to occur with more frequency in January than, say, March. But we still get a shit load of snow, on average, in January.

As others have mentioned, the beauty, and curse, of the PNW is that conditions will either be all time, or the worst imaginable, all within a few days (or hours). We can go from no snow on the ground to a 100 inch base in a couple of days. Good snow doesn't typically last long like it does in the Rockies, but then we get another dump that fixes that.

When we do get that one to two week high pressure spell in the winter, I find that the storms will be tracking to the SW USA. So if you see that high pressure building over the PNW, might be a good idea to head to Taos. However, while the snow often sucks for those high pressure spells, the touring and views are spectacular (and you can find south facing corn that you normally would only get in the Spring). Baker, and the PNW, are known for good early season conditions, but that's not always the case. Only problem with Baker is there are lots of stumps and boulders that need covering so it's not like the Rockies where a small base can ski ok. To me, every month in winter/spring the PNW is a good ski month. But I particularly like December and January because the low light makes powder on sun exposed south slopes ski well, which is somewhat of a rare treat. There is nothing like that mid-winter light in your face (soft and glowing).

January is Snoqualmie's highest snowfall month. But as mentioned it can be feast or famine.

It’s not rare that the January high pressure is preceded by a rain event which often follows heavy snowfall. I think there are some legitimate reasons that January gets a bad rap which aren’t low monthly snowfall totals. If it stays cold between the last snowfall and the high pressure the beginning of the clear weather can be pretty cool time to ski.

Here's the coverage map for T Mobile. Must be a tower near the resort.

    Nada downcanyon till past Glacier.

I haven't spent much time out near there in a couple years, but Verizon always had good coverage, but buddies with TMobile or att had no service.

The pan dome hut has the same bandwith dedicated to all of the providers. It's just generally low bandwith, especially on weekends. I think the microwave dome was erected when there was still analog cell phone signals. Tmobile probably works well since noone in whatcom co uses it

The 10 day forecast has broke my heart one too many times for me to trust it.

Couldn't paste in the image, but from Cliff Mass Weather Blog yesterday: "...the totals through mid-November are sheer madness, with nearly 2 feet over Seattle ... Folks....we may be skiing by Thanksgiving"

    Sheer ... madness.

I'm ready to be hurt again.

Either from the incorrect forecast, or hitting a shark after the next dump

The next sentence after 2 feet over Seattle was "The American model has problems." I don't think Cliff believes there will be that kind of snow. The mountains should get a good hit and I have my fingers crossed for skiing by Thanksgiving. Well, everywhere except Stevens. They won't open before 12/3 no matter how much snow falls.

Snoqualmie North will always be the last to open. Plenty of more time to start training for Alpental.

So, we are getting the warm atmospheric river and then the cold weather? Fingers crossed that some moisture sticks around and we get some accumulation. So pleased things are lining up in the proper order this cycle.
