Yeah, unforgettable and mildly terrifying. My mom, sister and I were doing yard work at our place northeast of Stanwood. We heard an explosion but though nothing of it because people routinely blasted stumps around there. My stepdad was at Arlington airport working on the plane. He called home with the news and told us to get down to the airport.

Have not ridden but had heard about it. Sounds like a day trip for that and some Sunny Farms shopping is in order

The morning murk was impressive, inciting motion sickness wooz. Clouds blew in and out until noon when a few sucker holes appeared before it finally cleared before 1.

A heavily windblown inch filled some dips in between scoured ice bulges. Made for tricky turns.

    Trees still frosted.

Iceberg was perfectly groomed from wall to wall and while compl33tly whited out at the entrance before noon, eventually halfway down it cleared up encouraging choice mondo honker boater ballroom turns.

Tough call, skiing new snow or skiing that snow as corn in the sun the next day.

Hey - Was hoping to get some basic info for El Dorado for those who have done it before.

Big questions are: How much of a slog is the bushwack/boulder field? Is crevasse rescue gear required for this tour?

PNW 2021/2022 Season! La Nia ahead!

He skis them fine. For the steeper climbs hell put skins on, otherwise he just takes a mellow approach, so basically he has no transition time. (He does not do a teli turn by the way.) he just says he likes the no-fiddle factor.
    His turns:

That's cool plug. It's funny I was always under the impression that the Bday tour was referencing Sally rather than Don.

    Re: Eldorado -

Relative to other things in the N Cascades, Eldorado is pretty straightforward. Not really a schwack anymore, there's a great trail (better than the trail to Boston Basin if you're familiar). Boulder field is great when it's covered with snow, so go soon.

I chose to rope up, some people choose not to, entirely depends on what you are comfortable with.

Same here. It's called "The Sally Portman Birthday Tour" in the Burgdorfer book. Speaking of WA Pass OGs, anybody know what happened to Skier X (as identified by the vanity plate on his truck)? Always used to see him posted up at the hairpin with a big umbrella and bbq on his sled. Was a real fixture up there, but haven't seen him in at least a few years. Hopefully he's moved on to better pow.
