Those first two hours sucked balls , slow and cold but once they got express running some fun turns were had today. It's gonna be pretty dicey up there for the next few days with the freezing level rising.

Conditions at mhm improved dramatically as the day progressed. Shortly before 330 they got HRM spinning and the couple laps I got in there did not disappoint.

Someone on the Portland subreddit called this morning’s conditions “wind blown diarrhea ice.”

I wish I could not relate to the work that guy had ahead of him. I am not one to say too much snow/too deep...but there are many places to avoid at bachelor when over 10 inches new...that looks like one of them...

I remember a ski article back in the early 2000’s about how skiers have more words for snow than the Inuit. I’m not sure “wind blown diarrhea ice” counts though

Count on it. I'm curious to see how big some of that chunder is... some if will be massive with all this snow, wind-loading, and upside-down snowpack.

Pretty much. Meadows just emailed that they're likely closing early today. Sounds like gnar winds and rain junked up the snow.

Oh, and I-84 is closed. Again.

so, does today count as one of the guaranteed 100 days open if not even MHX is spinning?

Every cloud has a silver lining… this pineapple express effectively de-iced all the lifts and with 6-7” expected on Friday with a sunny weekend on tap, the entire mountain will be open by this Saturday, Sunday at the latest. Mark it down! ;-)

The Big Wyeast slide on March 10 2011 did not happen until about 2 months after the big soak that flooded Sandy river.
Question is when? There seems to be no exact science to avy-prediction, with so many variables.

rhetorical question - you are at the bottom of silver and you see Wyeast breaking off, can you out gun it?

With The right skis, the right wax, and knowing a couple beers are waiting at the car, you’d be surprised how fast you can exit

Edit: assumption is the runout has just been groomed

you choosing the mini ridge & dodging trees?
or the VW-sized mogul field on the last little drop to the canyon creek level?

Right on. I will admit, I do not know any of those passes. My response was to someone talking about 84 being closed, so I was kind of thinking passes that get you between the east and west side of the Cascades...

I love moguls. Moguls are like boobs, the bigger the better til they’re too big.

Anyway, looks like there’s a possible turn in precip type that will make for slightly above mediocre skiing. See some of you there tomorrow?
