Heard someone say that it’s been 82 years since it snowed in April in PDX. I think we are averaging one “once in a lifetime” weather event every six months right now.

Woke to a few inches of snow in the driveway this morning. Decided to break out the snowblower to drain the gas tank. I probably jinxed all of Central Oregon and we are going to have the biggest blizzard in April since the founding of Bend. Sorry about that. I know you all were hoping to get in some golfing and hang up the skis.

Looks like PR is open but Heather on “avy mitigation” & SSX went on wind hold almost as soon as it opened

(operationally, can Heather open without Star?)

Sounds wonderful, and I'm glad I was neither in nor contributing to that mess after getting home on Saturday from a 1 week trailer camping trip. I took the Hakka LT3s off my truck 2 weeks ago when the 4/3 storm forecast was 3-6". Then the forecast kept going up from there! But the chains for my truck and trailer stayed in my truck!!!

    This AM at MtB
+ orgasmic turns in blower pow before the Great Horde got going
+ sucker hole breaks of as long as 45 sec, usually followed by a longer amount of time in a total vertigo-Inducing whiteout.
+ ski-on laps for 30 minutes on SRX, 1hr on Rainbow.
+ winds smoothed out the ruts from prior runs.

    - at opening, only SRX & ‘Bow (OK, and early riser & little pine) were spinning. Red opened ~1030
    - yet another set of WA public schools are having their spring break this week.
    - by 1015 wait at SRX was 10 min for a 3min beat-to-shit snow lap. Rainbow LL was thrashed as well.

    Back up tomorrow…

Seems between Cali, WA and OR schools, there's a spring break every week from end of February through the 3rd week of April. Doesn't anyone go to school anymore? Doesn't anyone #workanymore?

Thanks for the report from the mtn. for us #workingfolks.

Trying to figure out if tomorrow or if Thursday might be the better pick for a day to cash in a chip with the boss.

Possible not as windy Thursday, more days of buildup, and not a significant difference on Monday night or Wednesday night snowfall, I'd probably favor Thursday. Flexible work\boss to make a game time decision tomorrow morning?

Snow Level staying below pass level... hopefully... all week. Opensnow has it creeping up to 3000 feet on Sunday. The sun will be hiding... so hopefully the snow stays powdery or packed powdery through the weekend. It should be excellent every day of the week.

What they said on OPB this morning was it’s the first time in 82 years of recorded history that there was measurable snow at pdx this late in the year, so likely it was even longer than 82 yrs ago.

Whatever the case I’ll take it. Today was deep, deep, deep. First run through Ho Chi Minh was waist deep and untouched.

Also, the ski patroller I spoke with said the fellow who died last week was not in closed terrain.

I am passing through Oregon on a multi volcano mission. We got to Bend at noon. With all the new snow we went for laps on Tumalo. The conditions are incredible. This welcomed surprise will put the volcanoes on hold. We are a strong group that can easily do 25km/2500m. Can I get some suggestions for some bigger lines in the area that do not require a sled? I am fully aware the Avalanche conditions are considerable, but I would still like to head out and asses as we go.

Fun day at Batchelor yesterday for sure. I skied til closing and got my best day of storm skiing this season for sure. I saw the forecast and power drove up from Tahoe Sunday evening and it all fell into place. Super stoked.

The drive out to the ski area yesterday morning was sketchy. Whiteout conditions at times, saw multiple vehicles off the road, as well as a wreck in Bend in a roundabout. Parking was a challenge in the Sunrise lot as well.

Once the Red chair, then Pine Martin opened it was all good. Super cold out made for some blower/Utah style pow. Wasn't expecting that in OR.

Lots of options as long as you didn't mind a little bit of a push to get back to the chair.

Last run up Pine Martin at 4:00 pm it was still nuking down snow. Toes and fingers were numb but the skiing was to fun to stop. Nice change from the slush I've been skiing in Tahoe for the last three weeks.
I'm back out again today as well.
