We started at the summit snow park right on Hwy 140. I'd think in 3 weeks the south side would see the skiable snow pack move up to 7000ft (just a guess). The problem with Mcloughlin is that in the trees you have all of these micro ridges to cross that burn out. I'd guess the east side would do better and hopefully would go from 4 mile lake or the summer trail. We might go back and do the E side on our way back to CA next week. If so, i'll post an update on that side.

Made a game time decision to ski this AM, which resulted in my being asked to chaperone this entourage
Which includes the mothers of two pro skiers
We slayed the halfpipe
Was rewarded with lunch of ahi poke, salmon belly, ribs, shrimp, brats, grilled veggies and two flavors of fried rice. All I had to do was open new Prosecco bottles when the ladies killed the last one.
Good times.

Does anyone know the status or forest service road 2690/big lake rd near Mt Washington OR? I have Tuesday off work and would like to ski Mt Washington but not sure how close I can get to it.
I’ve tried online but cannot find anything.

As to the Mt Washington approach....Big Lake Youth Camp is where the best trailhead is. You can call them and ask if the road to the camp is plowed (I am pretty sure that if that road gets plowed, they plowed it). In the past I have parked just outside the youth camp gate and hiked from there. I found the people at the camp to be friendly and helpful. Enjoy!

All these dang spring pass kids at Tline! On one hand, I love watching the fashion show... on the other hand, feels like I'm playing chicken with them on every park feature.

Here’s your AM recon report for Sunday May 5/22
- Road is clear to PCT TH and youth camp
- there’s around 6”- 1’ snow at trailhead. Also shitload of snow removal debris
- There’s a fair amount of wet slide activity on SE face. Also a slab slide just above tree line on the spine.
- Didn’t see any Avy activity on NE aspects
- No idea what west side looks like
Bonus report
- water is high and fucking cold on Metolius - 12 min to numb feet
- ‘Bows in the Idiot Hole like my hares ear
- Prolly a week away from Drakes

Josh Suran (local Facebook conditions report guy) became a ballerina after the promise of food
The last time I wore a tutu was skiing for OAS about five years ago
Caught the skirt in sitski straps at offload.
Spun me 360* (with double ski eject) and slammed me face first into the ramp
Pulling the bucket, kid and instructor on top of me.
I suffered severe hematomas to left hip and ego
