My social media threads are filled with off-season ski storage and maintenance ideas and how-to’s right now. It’s good living in Oregon and not having to worry about such things

Yesterday, Timberline was super wet but still fun skiing.

Things got sideways with Summit not spinning. I hung out at the top of Sunrise for a few minutes while a few Patrollers did an assessment. It looked like some choice spring corn. But it wasn't meant to be.

McLoughlin Tuesday 5/17: Almost perfect conditions. Really smooth corn pretty much for the entire 3000+ft S side avy path. We walked to about 5450ft on the hiking trail before skinning to the avy path on the way up, but on the way down we skied to ~5250ft and was about a 20-30 min walk from ski's off to the car if you go fall line with minor schwack factor. Sign said 4 mile lake was closed, but didn’t drive it or the other E side access to see if they get us close enough.

Is Mclaughlin where they were proposing a southern Oregon ski resort? I believe in the 90's.

Pelican Butte funded by Jeld-Wen(headquartered in K.Falls then)which also ownes Silver Mt. in Idaho. They should of bought Bachelor from Pape. The low snowfall & Raptor nesting grounds were the downfall of that resort. A nearby resort by Rocky Pt.(Tomahawk) was operating till sometime in the 90s.

^^^Fun Fact - JELD-WEN bought Silver to get/ move the Gondola to Pelican Butte…before they got turned down for the permits. D’oh.

Could have purchased Silver ski area for $2.5 million 10 years ago when JELD-WEN was sold. That was without the golf course and water park. It actually cash flowed at that price but financing was hard to come by.

    Interesting information, thanks.

Along with the eagle habitat at the base, there was controversy over whether or not the volcano was home to wolverines.

^^^Spent a year consulting for them when they got purchased.

Not a bad gig - leave PDX (Frightcraft) Monday in one of their Gulfstreams at 0730, be at my desk in K Falls before 0900. Then leave K Falls Friday AM @ 0700 and in winter be on the road to Mt Hood Meadows before 0800.

Edit to add - Nice work Mr Hankey!

They started out that way then decided to diversify into resort real estate. Which didn’t turn out too well in the 2008-2010 downturn.

When Onex bought them in 2011 they had a clause saying management had to dispose of their real estate crap within 18 months for some min amount of money, or the Wendt family got diluted big time. They didn’t make it.
