Have you ever wanted to freeze your nips off all while paying some of the highest taxes in the country? No? Then just freeze your nips off and avoid the taxes by investing in 1/365th of a converted barn in Albany! PM me for details.

    Interested.

But do you have any opportunities in the greater Salamanca area? Proximity to the Seneca Casino is appealing during those freeze your nips off months.

You would have reciprocity at our Binghampton duplex that lies within shit-flinging distance of the zoo, for a small transfer fee, available Jan - Feb. Salamanca fills up fast but I can have someone check on that.

If there's chimp shit flinging involved, that sounds like a good investment.

Just don't panic and lock the car doors when the attendant walks over to pump gas for you or you'll look like an ass.

    The 1000 dollar investing challenge

Figured this thread might be the spot…question for the experienced investing folks:
Family member with no investment savvy/experience (& me neither since I’m asking) wants to move $50k from savings to put in something that actually earns something.
What is a reasonable strategy for someone who isn’t going to look at it more than quarterly? They would add to it yearly & reasonably expect to not touch it for 20yrs, tho they don’t want it inaccessible. Risk level is moderate — it’s not play money, but retirement isn’t imminent either.
My lowly experience is of the “just call Fidelity” sort…
    Thx

I'm no pro investor but years ago I made an account in Schwab and any time I've got extra money I buy mutual funds. I'm planning on not touching them for about the next 30 years.

put it into $SPY at the next dip. Or now, but as a day trader I cringe at bad entry point. Entry point is everything. Buy when everyone else is scared shitless.

Vanguard is an easy choice. If 20 years is the horizon, something like Target Retirement 2040 (2045 if they want more aggressive investing, 2035 if they want less). It's a mix of stock and bond index funds, and as it gets closer to the retirement date it moves money from the stock fund to the bond fund. For a set it and forget it investor, that's a great choice.

This is always how I know I’m getting close to Holiday Valley.

Can’t wait to have a small piece of a duplex there for ski season.
