It was freaking cold out there today. I had to swap to mitts after a few runs and moeghoul joined for several more laps but the cold drew us into the yurt where the Lost Nation Mosiacs M provided immediately became slushies upon opening.

Cold temps all week… I wanted to give thanks and praises to all the snowmakers crawling around in the dark while I sit by my wood stove. All mountains have crews behind the scenes doing the hard work to make skiing happen in New England. This just happened to come across my feed and is this years crew at Saddleback.

Damn, I thought it was 50 pounds and a flannel shirt.

How do you know that the toothbrush was invented in Rangeley?

Anywhere else and it would've been called a teethbrush.

Meeko says Merry Christmas and happy winter. A dusting on the groom at Mt. Abram made for very enjoyable conditions for both of us.Click image for larger version.

Merry Christmas and hope that everyone was safe on the roads this morning.

I was looking forward to snow this morning, but it the East you never know unless you go.

I had a reoccurrence of a back injury and for the past two months I felt like I might need to dial it down or shut it down because of the pain; hard to sleep and working has made it worse. A cortisone shot and a lot of stretching has helped some.

I arrived at Sugarbush at 8 am and was surprised to see it was basically empty.
I got in 8 runs before and after the temporary lift shutdown due to ice. But I was so happy to make turns again and felt like a great weight was lifted from me because if I can’t ski I’m not sure where I belong in the winter.

Did NH and ME get iced too?

Debating how horrifying Sugarbush will be later and if it’s worth it to head over.

In the mean time I’ll continue to watch cars slide past my house.

I hope all had a dry holiday and an enjoyable feast!

I ventured over for a few runs, nice that 'Fin got to enjoy some as well.
Started as sleet on the Bravo but changed to rain on HG, lifty was swatting chairs, but had to stop to swing and load. Very slippery, don't fall out.

Got off and started down Ripcord and stopped after 6 turns realizing that FR over fresh groom is fairly slick. Another guy skied down and stopped by me, laughed and said "we've come too far to go back" Yup.
Definitely on the low end of fun run, felt relived to to clear the headwall. Reminded me of that time on hillmans with Buckethead and Treewell Dweller when "The Shadow" was gaining on us while they transitioned.

Jester > Fling skied nice with plenty of loose sand. Stayed away from the ungroomed mounds of Lower OG as that route sucked on Friday, lower OG was especially bad with "Stick and Puck" conditions of slipping water ice pile2pile.

Over to Gatehouse to find it still wasn't running, they gave up at 1:45 and broke down the corral. This lift has been down a lot this year and as of now hasn't been cleared to load today, though spinning. Brave didn't load until 8:40+- and promptly quit for 5 minutes or so.

prepost 9:30 update: Gatehouse still not loading today and a loaded Bravo is on mechanical hold. Good times. win probably shouldn't have skimped on yearly maintenance over the years.

At least the snails pace Village chair was running so I could get home without walking

Sorry to hear it yello, dealing with a similar episode myself. Good on you for getting some turns in, hope it builds some confidence. I thought I was done with the yearly November-December back pain cycle, it’s been a few years since I felt this way. Not able to ski yet, just got some new images done. Best of luck /gimpcentral.

    Merry Christmas ECRC

Went out for a desperation/reconnaisance ski this am to search for new deep pockets of snow.

Got into some blower fluff, must have been 3/4” deep. Poked around on the front side and was thankful the walkers had packed out the road. I don’t know if I could have made it through untracked.

I am thinking I will have to keep this spot secret, so I put in an adventure skintrack just keep people out.

All in all, skiing is still fun, but damn, we need some snow.
