Well, that was underwhelming. Again.

At least 10” by closing at Smuggs. Doremite and his neighbor kicked my ass. Our last run was down to the Notch Rd though the birthday bowls. We saw sno-mo tracks on the road which is very unusual. The I came home and read this.
From Stowe Mountain Rescue:
“First-hand reports are coming in from the Smugglers Notch/Birthday Bowl and Mansfield side/back-country of numerous avalanches. Snow conditions remain tenuous with the varied surface conditions from the past few weeks creating week bonds between layers and especially no/limited bonding with this new snow.
Please remember that impact with trees are probably the highest threat for injury in an uncontrolled slide.
…and don’t be fooled….snow depth at lower elevations on the run-out to 108 is very shallow. Most of our season -ending injuries occur within sight of the road.”

^^ good call aldo!
i was looking magic but their snow report bummed me out (predicing another disappointment)
glad you were not dissuaded!
haven't had a day like that at magic in years!
those are the best!
but sheesh! you made time to eat??
I’m having my first Jay experience this weekend and it’s fucking amazing.
Catskills def in the sweet spot for this storm. Plattekill was amazing all day with heavy snow from bell to bell. Took a little bit to cover up most of the ice crust, but likely ended up w a foot by afternoon. Not a lot of people so fresh on nearly every run. Great day, thanks esp to Buckethead for the push in this direction!
True on all accounts just north of the line as well. OH picked up about 8-10” of right side up supportive cruisy pow while we were there. Lots of terrain came back in but you had to be light on your feet. The previously shit-fuck moguls were particularly good. Could barely believe lift was ski on all day. Guess people were over it. Today should be pretty sweet for those who make it out.
Whoms grl is this

Don’t sell yourself short, G. You were skiing great and wait times were minimal. We were pressing an aggressive pace (hence no pics). Conditions well exceeded expectations and we got into a lot more trees than I anticipated. Great day! And great reminder that is not zero risk avy territory.

Surprised by the jay virgin posts.
It is the best hill in New England.
If you loved it on piste, get to know the glades and the gates. Not to mention the backside.
Do not doubt the jay cloud.
. . .
Bah. Lift serve at Jay is nothing but Okemo with moar snow
Some of the best snow of the season was found today. I watched where it was being blown yesterday and made the right call.
It took 500-600’ to just get my hip to ease in and stop hurting on the up.
The view from the ridge was gusty but it doesn’t look that crowded*.
We took 3 laps in the zone by ourselves and as we were heading back up for another, a few groups were dropping in.
My bud doesn’t take pics so you get him as the model. This shot doesn’t really show the waist to chest deep shots we (or at least I) got.
We headed down and out at that point and had lots more fresh turns.
*My friend was meeting his GF at Smuggs so he decided to skin up over the notch road. As we approached Stowe Resort the electronic sign read, “All lots full. Take public transit”. What a shit show. How can you sell so many passes that the dozen different HUGE parking lots overflow?
Well, I got my untracked runs in and had a lovely time. I hope those that skied Stowe did too.
Sometimes it’s the little things that make life special.

There was a time, a happy time, just a few years ago, where the few that knew and cut/ maintained that trail area put the skinner so that you or the next group who you likely knew that skied it days later never had to cross it on the fun parts. I guess once you start putting up trail markers on trees people start following them.

"If the road You followed brought you to this,of what use was the road"?

^^^ That skiing looks tasty. Also, points for proper tableware. Well done on all counts.
