I had not heard this tidbit. Sounds like typical Fairbanks.

I first really got into skiing as a kid at Brodie. Then the Faribanks closed it. And wrote into the deed of the property that it may never be used as a public ski area ever again. Criminal, if you ask me.

Almost as criminal as their penchant for grooming the hell out of every single flake that falls on Jiminy, where I kept skiing after the closure of Brodie.

I've also heard that the widow of the operator of Mt Tom brought Fairbanks in as a consultant, once her husband died and operational responsibilities fell to her. Fairbanks persuaded her to close the ski area.

Quite a record of death and destruction in this dude's wake.

I hadn’t heard about drilling holes in the snowmaking pipes. Is that a confirmed story or rumor? Until now, my only beef with them was for closing Brodie and ruining Jiminy. Never skied at Bromley.

If you're asking if there's video of them doing it...of course not. Did it happen? All the research I have done says yes.

I see ECRC is back in the swing of things.
Loving the drama of the last half dozen pages and it's nice to see some old names coming out of the woodwork and posting again.

I've been wondering why Stratton has been getting so many uphillers this season.

You all think Jeff with a G has enough $$ to keep this thing going past this year? Since lifts are such a PITA for any area, maybe just turn Magic into a uphill only hill? That would get all the skinners off Mikes Way at Stratton. Another positive is the BLT will be slinging food like crazy just to keep all those uphillers fortified.

Hell yeah it's entertaining, I just learned about Pfister Mountain Solutions. I hope the slogan is something about a 'hands on approach'.

    let's keep it classy

aren't rope tows easier to operate than chairs?
that would insure serious soul. and a unforgettable uphill experience.
my one day at hickory beat my body like magic or mad or smuggs never did.

Good idea buckethead. Something for later in the day when you're a bit tired from skinning all morning. A hearty lunch at the BLT then hit the rope tow for the afternoon. I imagine a rope under Red could be a bit challenging but I could see one under Black.

What's the max length for a magic carpet?

Who's taking these ideas to Geoff? MNIAW? MMP?

Good to see that change. Jfc some of Cannon's old patrollers were complete douchebags. And I have a ton of friends that were patrol inda west, so I've always had respect for them, but I've never run into bigger assholes than at Cannon over my years there. State workers

^^ ditto for bellyeare 10+ years back (never came back except to hike after closing day). on a pretty epic pow day, mini summit, they MOWED the untracked canvass under the lift as we rode first chair. (for a jr NASTAR clurse no less!). instead of evaluating/opening terrain, patrol pulled passes from those ducking ropes into trails that shoukd have been open. the day was spent avoiding getting caught (because those beaters would have had to catch us!)
otherwise my experiece with patrollers have been good, especially at MRG, magic and platts.

i did resist temptation to ski reserved terrain at gore last season - expecting similar patrol philosophy at another state run area.

Had lots of real skiing today at Paddys Peak. Excellent beers at Hennicker brewing. 4-6”would be my guess, more in places. Even rode the lift with an off duty patroller rocking FTP gloves. Great day with the kiddos.

red would get an elevated ramp at the big ledge (great for brave mtnbikers during summer.) maybe an exit ramp before the last closed portion of the trail.
traverse to black and grab the rope to get to the top!

It's all good if you can counter, counter, under-rotate, rotate, pizza, french fry, rotate, rotate, feel the big toe, set arch, look forward, point belly button, look downhill, see God, drop knee, see the spaces between the trees, rotate, over-rotate, counter and counter you are ALL GOOD in any and every surface condition.
