I’m signed up for this with 7 friends on the 23 - looking for some people to ride with 22nd and 24th as well.

BRC was pretty awesome. There hadn't been snow in awhile and they guides put us on nice soft boot to knee powder. It took a little to get too and out of but they had some great runs for us. As large as that cat op is, I can see how they can make the day skier avoiding lines and learning powder along with a very advanced rider. Day 1 our guide kept us in the trees, in the shade on pretty steep terrain. Day 2 the guide started us on 5 foot drops and let us work our way up to 10ish. In our group was a guy from the Freeride pro tour and he had a great day boostin off stuff.

Poking around nelson debating making the drive up to revy. How's it holding up? We just skied Red and had to be a little on guard at times with rocks and dirt patches. Plan B is check out WW and turn for home...

It's been a good snow season so coverage shouldn't be an issue and the next few days are supposed to be sunny. But the freezing levels have spiked recently and we are definitely between storms, although I'm sure you could still find some decent turns. Maybe a long drive for potentially so so conditions?

The Sellkirk‘s definitely caught a lot more snow this year than the lower Monashee‘s. It’s been along time since I’ve seen such a dry spell in this area. Hopefully some big systems are building. In the meantime, fun walking around in the sun

Glad it survived C. Valkyr Range had a melt freeze event mid - week last week!. Going to try to get to the Pass and look for good terrain this coming week

I'm going to be skiing Whitewater 2/23-2/25 and Red 2/27-3/1 (doing a day at BRC 2/26). Would love to ride with some mags.

I've also recently gotten a touring setup and beacon/shovel/probe. I haven't taken an AST 1 yet but have read Tremper's "Staying Alive in Avalanche Terrain" cover to cover. Definitely would be interested in tagging along for some mellow tours if anyone wants to make a few laps. Will be happy to buy beer!

Lee, how have your days this week been so far? That 3cm yesterday at Kicking Horse was surprisingly fun, but I'm down from the Yukon with no desires other than to be on skis, so I am no doubt a terrible judge of ski quality. Full moon was nuts last night, did a little tour after a big day at the hill and now hanging out today hoping this weekend delivers some new. It's been a long time since I've been to Rogers with good stability, so this spring-like thaw with a bit of incremental loading sounds all good!

Skied Stone Arch yesterday. NRC today. Yday was just a tour. Today much better with 10 - 15 new.

Low angle is better. E facing has more snow but even W is healing. -1 to -3 temps. WS above 1900m. Some SH preserved but not too hard to manage. Storm sluffing

Pass snowpack seems to be healing. Skied NW aspects few days ago. Skied SE and E aspects today from treeline. About 50cms new but density was low so trailbreaking not too tough

Been having a great time in Nelson and Rossland the last few days. Hoping to have one more good one tomorrow at WH2O before snow levels rise.

If you're up there I'll be in puke green pants, blue Patagonia jacket, blue Smith helmet, skiing icelantic Shaman's. More pics to come in a TR in a few days.

A few photos from Sorcerer Lodge, Feb 20-27. Jumped on a last minute opening heading into a stretch of arctic high pressure after about 30cm new, was a great setup for the week considering how up and down things had been most of February. Some hard surfaces underneath the new snow but good stability and overall great days in the alpine despite a very cold start to the week at -30. Renovations to the lodge since the last time I was there have been extensive. Of all the BC backcountry lodges skied over the past 12 or so years, the place is so well equipped and the terrain is so good, can't recommend it enough.

Thanks guys. Snow did not suck! Great week of mountain photography down there. Back in the Yukon now and all aspects all elevations are wind smashed per usual this season. Hoping for a turn around but most every time we get any new snow lately it's been accompanied by nuclear winds.

Hey there friendly neighbors to the north. I’m heading your way on the 20th driving up from Tahoe with a buddy looking primarily to tour anywhere it’s good in the zone, from Kootenay Pass/Nelson/Rossland up to Revy and Rogers Pass. Curious what the general state of your snowpack is? Avi reports don’t mention and PWLs. Snow surface looks like it’s decent? I know there’s more snow coming in and hopefully cools off. We have a week, a van we can sleep in, touring gear and willing to hit some ski areas too, grab a guide, even jump in a cat, heli, or hut if that’s the call. Really just want to find winter since ours bailed after New Years for the most part. Would love to get up into the alpine if conditions and viz allow it. What would you guys do w a week in your zone right now?

Oh also, we’re driving through Spokane so could cross at Nelway on 6 or Frontier I guess if headed to Rossland first. Any suggestions there? Anyone know what qualifies as a “professionally observed or administered” antigen test?

You will be showing up during the second week of spring break for school kids in B.C. and Ontario, so ski resorts will be busy.

Unless you have perfect timing and show up during a storm, I would avoid Red as they have struggled with snow volumes (coverage) all season. This is the time of year when we usually hit the height of the snowpack in B.C., yet it looks like Red will fall well short of making it to a 200cm alpine base...very poor for Red, so go to Whitewater instead, then continue further north for deeper snowpack.

Agreewith Danot. Whitewater is the call.
As for hut, heli or cat... tbh everything up here gets booked at least a season in advance. Even the cabins at kootenay pass are booked for most of next season. You may get lucky and someone may drop out, but that rarely makes it past the first couple of calls before it's taken.
There's some pretty good touring to be had right from whitewater and you can park in the lot at the base.
The guide companies are pretty booked up too this year, but you could try kootenay backcountry guides out of Nelson.

The snow pack is fucked (it always is). It's chakking right now, but spring has sprung so who knows if you'll get pow, rain, slush, or refrozen ice mank. Rossland is whack. Kootenay pass, wh2o, Highway 31a are good touring options. You're probably in for some good times, but it's hard to say what you'll get a week out.
