We're in the same situation in the Sea to Sky. Arguably the same applies to the rest of the province with the absence of Skeena-Stikine. Nobody is willing to give an inch.
Yes - I agree- an overall government plan is pie-in-the-sky (government complaining there's no resources - it's your freaking job and you can't do it). Yes an overall government plan is probably going to be disassembled and amended de facto over time by squabbling user groups ala Golden; but you have to have some overall framework in which to work. The provincial abdication of responsibility; while predictable, is entirely frustrating. There's no predictability other than that everything is capricious and unpredictable.

Hearing good things today if you're willing to search a little. Guide buddy came through the door stoked just now.
Like Lee said overhead blower is not on the cards, but avy danger is low and the crust is breaking down. Certainly in the WH20 backcountry anyway.

Land use planning has not been well managed since they removed the old MSRM back at the turn of the millennium (thanks BC Libs - the political right in BC for you citizens of the republic). It was cumbersome, expensive and not entirely successful, but most knew where they stood with respect to their tenure and land management (big industry tenures were the biggest losers, which is what prompted the Libs to axe the ministry). But that was 20+ yrs ago, and our population has grown, technology has improved for both resource extraction and recreation, and First Nations are beginning to come to realize their own power.
For anyone that has a deep interest in land use planning, there are senior and mid-level bureaucrat opportunities coming out almost daily in several of the resource and dirt ministries. Put those great ideas and frustrations to work, for the betterment of all the people of the province (and not just your own interest group). I double dog dare you We get the government (and bureaucracy) we deserve.Last edited by BCMtnHound; 01-18-2022 at 07:51 PM.

Lee is skiing groomers. Shit must be getting dire!
FWIW I had good skiing in the Selkirks last week, but the the alpine was more wind hammered than my previous four trips there. Freezing level appeared to have stayed just low enough, and there was no melt freeze crust at valley bottom. That was a squeaker.
