Does anybody get Mountain Gazette?
How is it delivered? No way it's fitting in my mailbox safely.

Yeah, mine comes to the POB and they put it in a locker iirc. Your delivery person may vary.

What do you think of it so far? I want to subscribe to support outdoor journalism/writing but it looks really pricey

I think the format is great for photography, but a bit cumbersome for reading.

I dig it. I picked it up after the death of Powder.
With the consolidation of media, and much quality content going to die in shit-ass social media; I'm all about supporting quality, focused journalism. Along with Mountain Gazette, I also picked up Adventure Journal, and kept with Ski Journal.

^^ I'd throw Ascent Backcountry Snow Journal & Backcountry Magazine into the mix if you're into the backcountry at all.

They are different magazines. Backcountry Mag is a little bit more sponsored content and ads, but reads a lot like a Powder of the backcountry. Ascent is an independently produced mag about BC skiing and splitboarding with three issues per year.

Always been a fan of High Country News. Political, but well done.

Glad to hear that you prize your copies of TAR. They are sized to fit on the back of the toilet. Ping me if you run across anything interesting.

I know Fayhee pretty well. I'm quite familiar with many of the characters in his writings too, haha. Not sure he is still involved with the MG at all though.
I wish these guys all the best and I'll probably pick up a few mags if I see them laying around, but it'll be tough to match the original and Fayhee versions. If they come close I'd consider subscribing. Life has been lacking in quality reading material lately.

You made me laugh out loud before coffee.
And back to the original topic, I love the old MG, have a stack of issues from 1977 on, but I cut some of the covers off for a wall collage years ago in Park Service housing. Dorworth's Night Driving blew my mind, btw.

The format of Mountain Gazette is rad, and there’s some excellent topics and photography. I’m glad I subscribe. I will say I was a little concerned when the first issue I got had a long article by the editor’s wife about fires in napa or something like that…decent article but still
Night Driving and TAR are both killer. Got to spend a fair amount of time with one of the guys who makes a cameo in Night Driving and was blown away by the contrast w today’s ‘ski culture’

^^ Are fires not a concern for mountain communities? We just had one in South Tahoe.
(also the Sonoma / Napa fires were in the mountains)I ski 135 degree chutes switch to the road.

I love MG, or I did the old versions. I haven't seen the new ones. I also have a stack from the mid 2000's.
When I was young I really loved Powder but the bro brah skin thing gets old imho. MG was a great alternative with a little bit of this and a little bit of that with a lot more on the true dirt bag mountain lifestyle instead of skiings rock stars being sent on dream trips. I liked that.dirtbag, not a dentist
