ESS,
Cutting into Dropout 1 from Cornice is one of my favorite early season shots. Fun little gulleys to wiggle through, good snow sometimes. I like it when things fill-in, but I really like that early season stuff.
Great shots as always."Have you ever seen a monk get wildly fucked by a bunch of teenage girls?" "No" "Then forget the monastery."
"You ever hear of a little show called branded? Arthur Digby Sellers wrote 156 episodes. Not exactly a lightweight." Walter Sobcheck.
"I didn't have a grandfather on the board of some fancy college. Key word being was. Did he touch the Filipino exchange student? Did he not touch the Filipino exchange student? I don't know Brooke, I wasn't there."

Being a super expert skier I don't spend much time on Schoolyard, but I haven't seen much in the way of lines one it except when everything else is shut down due to wind. President weekend is going to see longer lines, but because it only serves beginner terrain shouldn't get too crazy.
I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...iscariot

^^^ thanks all. That gives me the info to share with the friends. I guessed as much, but I too, being a super expert skier, never even have looked over there.
We won't be skiing on the weekend, at least not at Mammoth. They might hit up June. We are blacked out, but does not really bother me. The weekends sound nuts. We aim our mid winter trips to be midweek only. Sometimes we even bail for June on Fridays. We like the views and change of pace and it cuts our drive home down by 7 minutes. Although, over spring break, my son and I skied Mammoth opening until 10;30AM (we had an 11AM checkout time) and we still got in 15k, and left just as the lines were starting to show up.
More snow please.

Snow was pretty nice this morning, the patrol site said ~6-7" by the time the chairs started spinning but it certainly felt deeper than that. Couldn't see anywhere though! Low vis and wet, but the trees under Chair 1 were pretty well filled in and a lot of fun.
I'm pretty shocked it's still only early November - hope it keeps snowing.

Holy crap this morning was fun. Rode the gondy to midstation where they were unloading everyone and plopping em back in line. Staff said it could be a while, and 3 wasn't running yet, so I took some warm-ups on 1. Chair 3 popped and hot laps down West Bowl were a blast. Snow was decent, sidehits were hittin. Sharks were mostly covered and relatively easy to identify. Top didn't look spectacular so no point waiting for the gondola, imo. Got ~8 laps on 3 before they started loading the gondy to the top. Saw the first few riders come down and confirmed what I thought... crusty. Rode up there anyways and found silky good turns on Dave's then moved over to Dropouts which was crusty but I had my crud busters and thought it was super fun. A few laps on Drops from the gondola and then... Chair 23! A few more laps, one in Wipeout, but still felt Drop 3 was the place to be so lapped that a few more times before calling it at Noon with a final lap down Monument. WHAT A FUN DAY!!!

Busy today. I skied last Friday and it wasn’t nearly as busy as today is. Weekend looks to be very busy.

^^True!^^
Surprised at how far down cars were parked yesterday around 130!
Tomorrow WILL be a red-line day.
Snow is holding up well: West Bowl, Drops, Daves, Cornice, and surprisingly Christmas and China Bowls!
They're working on 5 & 2, but lean down low.I have mastered all major sporting activities to a high degree of mediocrity.

I was out on the hill yesterday (Friday) and overall it was decent early season conditions. Big uptick in numbers as evidenced by the parking which was getting close to ch 4. Yesterday was Mammoth’s planned opening so I think people booked for this weekend months ago.
If it seemed more crowded it wasn’t your imagination, it was. Broadway with the most people I’ve seen on it so far this season.
It was a beautiful day, although I wish it were storming, with warm temps and no wind. Snow was springy down low late in the day.
The warm temps and no wind have left the top pretty much rippled all over. Smooth snow up high is scarce.
If you look around enough at Mammoth you can almost always find some good snow. Skyline from the top of 23 down to Scotties skied really well. Soft snow and good coverage. Normally it’s wind scoured and rock hard.
Looking for something different I took Road Runner from Scotties past ch 14 and booted up to the top of ch 12.
The groomers off of ch 12 were sweet. Untouched corduroy. Traverse back was sticky but worth it.
WTF bro? This dude gets in the gondola and cranks up his shitty ass music the whole ride. Total lack of social awareness or self perception. Dude, that shits blows. Most annoying trend ever.
World Cup was fun late in the day to arc some turns down to ch 23. Spring skiing in November.
Not skiing today with the numbers I saw yesterday but by mid day Sunday it should be emptying out. Keep your head on a swivel if your out this weekend. Enjoy!Last edited by Eastern Sierra Skier; 11-13-2021 at 09:57 AM.

Back out on the hill today. Skied 6 out of the past 7 days and not much has changed. Mammoth is skiing pretty consistently day to day. Still some good snow on the Mtn but it’s getting harder to find. Right now, there’s more shitty snow good, but it’s better than not skiing.
Sections of good snow on the Dropout side of ch 23.
Skiers left side of Cornice skis well every day with good coverage, snow quality and sunlight.
The Dropout 1 line had some fun wind blown snow in it late in the
day on Tuesday.
Lower section of the Dropout line. Good snow where these guys are.
See you on the Mtn.

Do you have some inside info and a date when that could happen, assuming you are talking about a RE-opening in the next month or so, not usual May opening? I skied Mammoth last Wed/Thu after spending short Tues night in So. Tahoe. I had 6 hr drive home to Bay Area via Gardnerville (to fill up on less expensive NV gas) and Hwy 88 after skiing. Worth it, but Sonora saves me a lot of miles and at least 30 min. Picture is from Daves where we found best snow although chair 23 was almost as good and less work to get to and from.

Thanks. I googled for “Sonora Pass open”, etc. and didn’t find anything and maps.google.com still sends me over Carson and Monitor passes. But https://roads.dot.ca.gov/ has Ebbetts and Sonora open. Any hope for Tioga re-opening? It has trees down in addition to snow and it seems like Park Service likes having less work keeping it closed.
