As an ex roadie bike messenger who grew up with Greg Lemond and pretended I was racing in some classic when it was raining in NYC I will talk shit as much as I like. I'm lucky I got out, had friends that showed me my old BMX ways with MTBing.

I hate college football, and southern accents sound dumb to my ears. I think I can get past it though.
There’s you getting over it, but also be prepared for people to hate you because of your] non-southern accent. It’s a thing, and it sucks.

Yup, they won’t give a fuck that you are from New Hampshire, you are a Yankee. Might as well be from NY.

I've now spent well more than half my life in the South and this has never once happened to me, at least to my face. And I originally hail from NE Ohio, where I never realized how funny we said certain things.

It's almost like some of y'all have never been out of your mountain towns

I think if Buttah gets any kind of serious shit, its because he will be acting all ECRC and telling people how ass-backwards he thinks they are.

As with anything else, you tend to get the same kind of attitude back that you put out. It's also my experience that if you pick up on a bigoted vibe (which can happen errywhere), then I remove myself from that situation as I don't care to spend my time with stupid, or ignorant, or just generally dull people. If you choose to stay and argue with morons you might just get that confrontation you're looking for.

That said, despite what I've always thought was enough earned up-cred, I'll never be the true Southerner our son is because I wasn't born here like him. And that's ok, cause that kinda shit only matters if you're comparing your BBQ chops or cornbread recipe. If you can't handle a little geographic teasing I'm not sure how you've survived TRG Forums to this point.

    YMMV.

I'd say North Carolina style (vinegar sauce, whole hog), but you might get a bit of South Carolina's other varieties, mustard or tomato. Mustard ain't bad at all, tomato isn't for me, vinegar for the win.

If you're lucky enough, you can trek on over to Hemingway, SC for the OG Rodney Scott's whole-hog barbeque, as good as it gets. (and a Beard Award)

They even have a map there that shows you what parts of the Carolinas have what sauces for the uninitiated.

For fucks sake. If anything is a more telling sign of a Myrtle Beacher who lives either 400 miles inland or in the Upstates and goes to the beach once a year after a 14 hour pilgrimage, its a Salt Life sticker on a lifted Super Duty.

I’ll never forget the time me and my buddies were driving to the beach for spring break, loaded 5 deep in the Assfinder with enough supplies thinking we were like Hunter Thompson or some shit and we pull over in Mt Airy looking for a place to crash.

The looks on our faces when we walk into the diner realizing we just stumbled into fucking Mayberry, USA was priceless.

It's unrealistic to believe that butter's experience in a smallish city / large town in the deep south will mirror your experience in, truthfully, the most affluent neighborhood in the 9th largest metro area in the nation. (NTTIAWW a high-brow neighborhood).

And, new-england accent is a hell of a lot more distinctive here than Ohio.

    Let’s Talk About Greenville SC

I spilt my time between the South Shore, which might just have the thickest Boston accent in the state and Western Mass which has zero accent. I don’t speak like my Mom, when we first moved out to the west everyone thought my brother Marc was called Mac after hearing my mother calling us in for dinner.

Good god. I'm still afraid nobody will understand you down there.

I asked this dude on a chairlift where he was from once. He says what sounds like "The Apaak" to me. Some weird ass place I never heard of. Anyway after we get off, I ask my friend, where "The Apaak" was.
    He's says, "Deer Park."
    Fucking Long Island.
