I'ver seriously thought about Greenville too, but I'm concerned that it's hotter than fuck in summer. Part of the attraction of Asheville is the elevation which makes summers a little more bearable. Have you looked uphill a bit as you get into NC north of Greenville? IIRC, that's where Hincapee has his home base which means there's gotta be amenities. And FWIW, I've ridden the roads from Asheville to Table Rock and it's super legit. The climb up Ceaser's Head (which is a long, but do-able day from Greenville) is pretty all time.

^ I went from essentially Columbia, SC to atlanta and, over time, noticed that atlanta is consistently about 5 degrees cooler than columbia on a given summer day. I'd cipher greenvile MIGHT be a degree or so less than Atlanta on average. So we're talkin say 93 vs 100 in 80% humidity june-mid sept. Still pretty miserable, but as others have observed, a ton of lakes and whitewater at least help. Know your water snakes.

I didn’t see Bmills post before, thanks, sounds pretty good to me.
I hate college football, and southern accents sound dumb to my ears. I think I can get past it though.crab in my shoe mouth

Summers in New England are not like they used to be either, it’s hot and humid from June through August. I can deal with that.

Seriously, though, if you were going to go south, you could do an awful lot worse. Greenville is a LOT more industrial than most of the area. Just, it is a lllloooooonnnngggg drive to south florida, don't kid yourself on that point. and you're a solid four hours from the coast in any direction.

I think you might be surprised by the progressiveness of Greenville. Certainly not on the level of Asheville, Durham, or Savannah, but a happening city nonetheless with a stark contrast to the political and social attitudes of everything surrounding it.
As others have said, it is fucking hot and it is fucking humid. Expect half of the days out of the year to be 80F+ and 70%+ humidity.
Whitewater access is good but I’m not sure if you’re into that. Biking is also good from what I hear but there are certainly better options when it comes to that.
Check out Morganton, Waynesville, Hendersonville, Brevard, and Black Mountain. All of these will take 10-15 degrees off the temp on any given day and are probably more of what you are looking for in terms of biking.

Let’s Talk About Greenville SC
We want to be in a small city, not a podunk town. Hendersonville sounds wicked podunk to me, where is it?

True but that's a legit one run wonder ski hill. If you're already there might as well, but if you gotta get up and get in the car better off going farther up... elevation and lattitude..
MT do they got gators around Greenville...... yet? We don't have cottonmouths in NC but do have tons of copperheads..Go that way really REALLY fast. If something gets in your way, TURN!

How many of these signs do you see per mile when driving through the rural suburbs of Greenville?

1. God, guns, and Trump.
2. Hot.
If those are appealing you will love Greenville.

OP should check out Highlands, or Cashiers, NC. Cool towns, higher in the mountains towards Asheville. Outstanding resort opened in Cashiers by the Blackberry Farm team. Highlands has a great little town. It will be much more expensive in these places though.
I still call it The Jake.

This. I lived in a slightly lower elevation in SC and it's so fucking hot that I didn't ride my horses for most of July and August. Had to hose them off almost every day because they sweat just standing around and had heavy duty fans in their stalls.
Tons of crazy ass baptist people, must love Jesus, not just God!
Multiple people asked about my guns and upon finding out I had none, offered to help me obtain one or more.
Twice when jogging the back roads in horse country (in running gear), people asked "do ya need a ride or sumpin wrong?".
Someone once asked me what Organic means.
You can find a pod of good fun people but the fucktard Trump shit is everywhere. And get used to the N word.
(side note, I was born in and mostly raised in the south... mistakenly moved to SC for 3 years after being in CO for 20 years.)
Good luck!
