    "The" Batman

I know Hollywood is turning old franchises into fruit-cakey B.S. these days, but this trailer deserves a look:

This guy seems like a trustworthy reviewer based on the number of VCR tapes he uses for his background.

    Saw it today.
Had the whole theater to myself.
    It's good.
I yammered about it a bit in the Ongoing Movies In Theaters thread:

Solid B from me. Seen it all before. Was ready for it to end 2 hours in. The last 30 minutes was painful.

While I agree with the "seen it all before" comment, I've had a week to ruminate on it and I think it just might be the best Batman movie of the bunch.
I revisited Batman Begins the other night and while I was not a fan of it when it came out, it hasn't aged well. That film's Batsuit is clunky and garish, the Batmobile is ridiculous, and Christian Bale's Batgrowl is hilarious. Additionally, the pacing of that film is all over the place and the cast is wonky. It seems now like Nolan and company were trying to strike a balance between the camp of the Adam West era and the darker, more serious nature of the comics at that time and kinda missed the mark.
The Batman, while certainly derivative in look and feel, at least has an even tone and pretty decent pacing. And I really liked Pattinson in the lead role. Ditto for Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman. And the supporting cast was fantastic, as well.
I also thought the Batsuit in this film was the best designed one yet. And while it smacked of Mad Max-meets--meets-Fast and Furious, I really dug the stripped down, post-apocalyptic Batmobile.
Sure, it's a far cry from perfect, but it has a lot of great elements lurking under the surface.

Is Batman really a "super" hero if he i=has 100% normal human physiology with no generically freaky "super" powers?

I’m not gonna nerd out but, yes, just go with it.

    Batgirl
    Hawkeye
    Punisher
    Green arrow
    Black Widow
    Tony Stark

    The list goes on…

Ok I’m gonna nerd out just a bit but Wayne is like a top .1% in intelligence and discipline. He’s normally some combination of world class martial artist, strategist and inventor not just a rich guy in a suit with a beef.

Wait, the riddler is a villain in the new Hollywood release of Batman!?

That knowledge alone is now enough for me to avoid the movie. The riddler? Holy fucking shit.

Back to rewatching the robot chicken dc comics special for me.

Robert Pattinson will be re-suiting up in the just announced and greenlit sequel:

I watched this the other day on HBO. Fell asleep twice.

Boring. Dark (as in Game of Thrones battlefield blackness). Tedious.

I give it a D, mostly because there are even worse ("F") movies from DC.

The plot in these super hero movies is essentially identical every time. So whether the latest iteration is any good or not pretty much just comes down to the atmosphere that's created, the individual quirks of the cast, and any other minor twists they decide to throw in.

I thought the atmosphere in this round of batman was great - like was discussed in the other thread, lots of bladerunner vibes. I liked the overall mood of it a lot. I thought the cast was solid too - I've become a fan of Pattinson.

Agreed that it dragged on to long. Could've accomplished the same thing in 2 hours.

Actually, he is more of a hero through most of it.

Worst Batman movie ever, it was hard to watch. After committing an hour and a half of my life to this, I was in for the duration to see if it ever got better...it didn't
