JongyDude, why you looking for a fight? Your macro primer is exactly what I've been saying. The part your missing not living here is that the whos who of Cocktail Party Circuit that want to run the show seem to think that the guys and gals who actually build things and may the highest wages around are the problem. The capitalism for you, socialism for me model is exemplified by the service industry business owners that can't follow your advice. To me the evidence that nobody real cares is that the government won't even pay there employees a living wage.
But yeah, if you answer the questions above we can talk about it.
I am wondering with the collapses of Twitter, Meta, and some Crypto crap, if some (Pandemic) WFH folks out here will be called back to wherever they came from.
Forum Cross Pollinator, gratuitously strident
come on you mother fucker I'm trying to be a martyr this morning
I think my 8 weeks off a year is going to be closer to 10 or 11 next year
I lost some money by taking 3 weeks off in july but it was fun and worth it
guess having matching bikes one hard tail and one soft tail and a pimp van makes it all worth it
Honest question, its UBI touted as the answer to "not enough good paying jobs"? So you just keep giving people money until they can afford a market rate place to live? Do you have to work for that?UBI is the answer to a lot of this
What about if we actually incentivized work? How about $10 per hour? How would that work? I have a bunch of friends that would build an apartment building if the average worker could afford it.
You do need to pay more. But I feel you, most people used up too much of their income on the real estate frenzy. Now they realise renovations are not as easy as instagram suggests. Those overleveraged pricks want to keep their lifestyle and expect tradesmen to charge $20/hr. Stop scabbing and charge more [emoji14]

so what wages do trades people deserve?
tell me
The construction industry is "paying more". Its part of what makes housing so expensive. But in our silly little bubble communities with white people and ski lifts, the other industries don't follow suit. So you get this, to me weird, scene where entities that pay $25ish lobby the tax payers to build housing for their employees. So people around here don't quiet quit, they lowdly whine.
I would suggest you start with union's collective agreement as baseline and adjust to to be competitive.
I have an idea that's better than UBI. Dual currency like Cuba CUC and CUP. Remote tech workers pay me in Canadian dollars, local nurse pays me in Canadian pesos. I have to check with Castro where to go from there, but I like the concept.
I have to dig for my collective agreements but I am certain the wages did not triple in the past 10-15 years. Housing prices did triple though. Someone's making lots of money and they're hoarding it.

What people are willing to pay. Hopefully you’ve put yourself in a situation that you can tell them to fuck off if they’re unwilling

So ya'll are against subsidized housing for those making 100% of AGI and you are in favor of the service industry and governments having to pay whatever wage in necessary to attract qualified labor? You should come to meetings and vote around here.
Well if you can't pay enough to attract somebody who can do the work you have a problem.
^^^agreed. The problem is real. Not for me. What we are talking about is around here the solution appears to be whine about affordable housing and see if you can get someone to subsidizing housing for your workers so you can keep on keeping on.
come on
I got a guy who drives 60 miles each way to work
every mexican has move to kremtucky and now drives an hour each way to work
there is no housing available where I live except for the upper middle class white people
housing is so fucked where I live its crazy
so now I have to charge "trip fee" for each of my employees and pay their commuting time?
lets say
1.5 hrs x $50.00 avg commute time = $75.00 x 5 days of the week = $375.00 x 9 employees = $3,375.00 per week just to get people to and from work?
you have no idea how much push back I get for the prices I charge
out of every lead I get I barely start 10% of those jobs most jobs I straight up refuse to do an estimate these days
I'd ask you what the fuck you are talking about but you don't even know that! I'm not blaming anyone for anything. I'm just trying a bit to give a state of what's going on around here. I'm glad your laughing, I think it will be good for you.
Fuck you Fred! I can't afford to keep up with your per diems. Now your Mexicans are driving out my white trash from K Town so I can't get shit done!
For the record, I'm not against affordable housing initiatives. I'm just against the yoga mom mafia and team khakis telling everyone else what they should be paying for labor.
the civil war in this country will start in kremtucky count on it
its a big discussion these days in scummit county all the redneck ranchers and white trash are being bought out and driven out by middle class blue collar mexicans funny as shit
I love it! I'm usually the best Spanish speaking Gringo on the job. I just reupped my Babble.com subscription, tax deductible of coarse. I might transition from trim nerd to bilingual project manager.
“Pay people more”= inflation.
I have one full time employee. He is paid $5 more than the national avg for his job. Plus Workman’s comp, and unemployment insurance and payroll taxes. He needs to stop fucking shit up too. I don’t know why I do it. Either I hire more people or just go solo. Probably be better off solo sometimes but it is nice to have the company I guess.
I charge more than anyone else and customers are still calling constantly. Booked 1 month out most of the year. Good problems but fkna I need a vacation.
So you do realize this entire thread is about people saying fuck off to employers in all occupations and saying my sanity is worth more than the livelihood you're offering me.
What difference does it make if the UBI is in the form of more government housing and food stamps or an additional social security check (+ say an extra $10/hr worked) for everyone? At the end of the day it's about taxing the holy fucking shit out of people with enough money and other assets to spend a million dollars a day for the next thousand fucking years. That concentration of wealth away from all of us is why we're bickering with each other. just as planned.. and also why the great resignation happened.. instead telling the 1% to fuck off.
My solution is that if you can't continue to live the life you want to live because people won't work for what you're offering anymore that's on you... Maybe you should quit too i.e. tell the people that have you kissing their ass for contracts where the profits are slimmer and slimmer or even loss leaders... tell them to fuck off while potential and current employees are telling you to fuck off.
FWIW I'm not telling anyone to fuck off here. You do you. But until the super wealthy start paying their fair share for the ridiculous wealth the government has allowed them to amass (including said government officials) this shit's gonna keep getting worse.
Go that way really REALLY fast. If something gets in your way, TURN!
Are they paying what you charge?

Jongy, I generally agree with you except I'm the dumbass that really prefers to pay people to work not to not work.
