Top sheets are in great shape as are the bases. Lots of surface rust on the edges and especially the tails…kinda like they were stored in a wet basement or shed. Skis have been mounted twice. The other mount is for a Look PX. Still a great find, though.

Very nice! With those metal topsheets, you can have holes close together.

Is the rust thin enough to ski or Scotchbrite off? Or is a stonegrind needed? The rust probably set the low price.

Cracks me up how many 2012-2014 Katanas were mounted with Dukes. Imagine skinning those.

Any differences between the heavy metal Katanas other than top sheets?
I have the same generation katana in a 191 (need to do a tail delam repair, but minty otherwise).
Excited to get on it.

Looks like most of the rust will come off with a soft gummy stone.

The backstory on these is that the seller had a two ski Volkl quiver with the 184 Katana for off-piste/new snow days and a Gen 3 mantra for firmer conditions. He decided to buy the M102 as a one-ski quiver but said he was disappointed that it didn’t do what the too more condition-specific skis could do. I asked him if he wanted to keep the Katanas and he said no. He then proceeded to tell me how awesome they were to hit side-country stashes with at Crystal because of the Dukes. At least it sounds like he enjoyed them!

I just played dumb and said that I had an earlier vintage Katana which I regretted selling…which is true.

I’m leaning towards mounting them with some demos so I can share them with Bandit Jr and share the love with others who may want a spin down memory lane on this beefy stick.

The "holy grail" metal version consists of the three German-made 2012-2014 years (samurai/green dragon/metallic green), which only differ by topsheets.

The prior gen has a similar subtle full rocker and similar construction and weight, but measures about 4cm shorter than advertised, was made in China, and has a reputation for being less durable than the 2012-2014.
