Thankful for the TGR troops. For posting up snow and dirt stoke. And helping convince me it should be a multi sport weekend,

My son and I hit Sidewinder and Lower Corral yesterday. We stopped 5 times on the climb so he could rest, but each time he found an adventure investigating the burn, a frozen rivulet, bouldering and generally mucking about. We had a great ride down and at the bottom he exclaimed "best ride ever," and agreed the climb was well worth it.

Today I took my godson and his dad out touring about. My godsons first time on skins. I stuck him with my 191 On3p OG Wrens with Dukes. He got a workout. We were going to head for Thimble Bowl, but there was no snow on Whiskey or at the base of 10, so we opted for the more direct Montes. It was a good call. We skinned the entire way, except for a short boot pack through a firm exposed section. Montes skied well, but the lower mountain skied better.

I did get on it late, as when I was about to click in, I noticed one of my heel pieces was too far back. Upon further investigation, the heel piece had blown up at some time and I could not adjust it. Luckily it was mounted to plates and I was able to unmount and fiddle with it to get the pins aligned right. Well, it took four times of doing that, but I finally got it right.

So, also thankful that I carry a multi tool. But it's a good reminder to check equipment at the start of each season. Not sure when this issue occurred with this heel piece, but it would have sucked walking down from the top of 6.

The choke on Montes is pretty thin. Any more melt and it might not go. Very little snow at all in the Caples Crest area or anything west facing, so getting to the backside would be a lot of dry hiking or maze through the corral. Otherwise, they look like they have enough snow to run chair 5 for next Friday. But its tight with that, They need some cold nights or a better forecast.

Just read a weather forecast. Sunny and mild the next several days.

Ski season still starts in February. I’m in training

To be quite honest, I was rather surprised to receive a Thanksgiving Day email from Boreal saying they would be opening back up on Black Friday.
I drove by it on Thanksgiving morning around 11:30 and it was bare.
I mean I ski some debatable patches every spring, summer, and fall, but when I looked at Boreal my thought was "well, they ain't opening anytime soon." I also told myself that I wouldn't hike to ski anything that sparse.
I guess they blew snow like hell TG night.
Their website says they are now open 7 days a week, 9-8.
Not sure how they are swinging that when today's temp is listed as 62 on their site...

I got an early start on spring yard cleanup today. Usually the aspen leaves and last round of pine needles disappear under the first snow and aren't dealt with until the snow is gone in spring.
This year, I got them all raked up for the kids to enjoy the yard for a while longer.
    Thanks?

That's really interesting. Shows you what a soaker that storm was. I've seen some parts of trails actually get muddier over the last week instead of drying out

Meanwhile, forecast tomorrow could potentially break record for high temp in Reno FML

    Also, some tips from Alkafalalalalik

Got mine put on last Monday since Stone's now requires advance reservations and they were booked up 2 months out.
Sadly, they now charge $50 to swap tires out even if you have them on separate rims (it used to be a free service if you bought tires from them; it is still free if you buy rims from them).

A bit confused as your post is dated "Today at 12:32 AM"...so, the corn was good just after midnight?

Take one for the team and take them back off.

I'm heading to Bozeman and Sun Valley this week... and right when I get back to Truckee next Tuesday I have to leave town and go to SoCal for work, so it will definitely snow then. Just doing my part.

    FYI/PSA

Mountain Hardware in Truckee has Sno-Park permits if you wish to avoid those BS shipping and convenience charges online.
    Got mine today.

Gonna hazard a guess that Tahoe Dave's may have some, too...

Speaking of thread names; is 22 referring to a Hwy? I'm assuming blue is for the lake

2022. I also understand it as a play on Blue-22, Blue-22. The generic hardcount every kid uses when playing football out back.

I appreciated the irony of somebody from the PNW asking if "22" referred to a Hwy, given that this is the Tahoe (i.e. California) thread and there is a Hwy 22 which is located in Oregon (i.e. PNW)...
(Fwiw, the other Hwy 22 traverses Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey; again, not Tahoe)
