I don't disagree. Just would point out that a 6 AM start used to mean arrival at 9:30 parking right across from Timber Creek. After that first storm in December, I left at 530, arrived at 830, and eventually parked in the Loop Road lots after waiting for 20 mins of traffic pulling in. Used to be no one outside of this message board would have considered a 5 AM day trip. Now I have neighbors who barely ski talking about it. The whole sport has seen an influx of casual skiers in the past 2 years that I could really do without.

We should do what A basin does and have the close lot for 3+ carpool, the next lot for 2+, and then the farther parking and shuttle for solo drivers.
Everytime I ski there I try to rally up a carpool to get the parking. It makes the limited parking work for more people.

Well heck, BA is saying dry-town for the next 2 weeks, and Swain is saying dry-town for 2 to 3 weeks (or longer), with maybe a light precip slider sneaking in at some point. So I guess enjoy the winter corn, until we probably get a 12-foot dumper in March or something.

We were there for the Far West races as well. 5 people packed into the Best Western in Truckee! Oh yeah!
Mrs. Comish and the Comish twins went to Northstar for U12 races leaving at about 720 +/- each day and made it quick. Another friend left "later" and took her "forever".
Mini Comish and I went to Palisades and left at same time. Hit some traffic, but nothing ridiculous. Got to Palisades a bit before 8am. Kinda crazy that there are that many people just hanging out waiting over an hour for the lifts to open. The damn line at Starbucks was the longest line I waited in all weekend. Lift lines were fine, at least on K2 and Headwall. Had a fun weekend even if there was a layer of scratchy across most of what we tried.
Mrs. Comish's report was the same as someone above: Wait 30 minutes for ticket, then wait 30 minutes for Gondi, then wait 30 minutes to, you get the idea. Said it sucked. I said "why you think I let you go to Flatstar!" I honestly have zero idea why anyone skis there. It's flat, expensive, boring, and did I say flat? but yeah, go check out Northstar. I will be there in 2 weeks for GS assuming everyone is healthy and still racing. He who has the most fun wins!

Northstar has some of the best tree skiing anywhere. Fantastic on storm days. Sugar Pine Glade, etc. Yeah I wouldn’t want to ski there all season either, but just saying.
I ski 135 degree chutes switch to the road.

I've almost gotten to the point where I prefer groomer days because I don't have to deal with the shitshow, even midweek. Almost.
Weekends are for XC, laundry, or watching sports on TV. Nice to be retired. (But not nice to be old,)

It’s a dumb argument to have. There are many good reasons to choose to ski Palisades over Northstar, but also vice versa (and yes, even for people who can ski). Pick what works for you.
I’d pick both if I had more time and money. I might choose Palisades if I skied mid-week most of the time.
How have weekends been at Sugarbowl this year? You guys having to deal with the same traffic clusterfucks (both on and off hill) as everyone else?

Rain and a bit of nothing at my house on Friday. OG buddy with Stage 4 cancer rolled up. We bailed on Rose-area touring plans, thinking it would be rain crust, wind-blown, and...I just wanted to blast out some laps with my ol pal going through a rough time.
The ski-commute sucked. What can I say? I have to remember --- I AM traffic.
After that, the weekend began in earnest. And holy crap did it exceed expectations!!
Untracked Beaver (who doesn't love untracked Beaver??) with coach
OG Buddy Chopper still has it of course
On to Untracked and Holy Primo Estelle - 8-10" of windloaded cold pow on a smooth surface. {Chopper's skis]
Posting video to TGR sucks. Instead, you get a shitty screengrab of a shitty video that began after the steeps. Ha!
Over to Untracked Buttress which nobody else skied that day, despite being in great shape. [shot taken at 2:00...]
After that....we stopped taking pictures because it was just so damn good. What a day. One of the best resort days I've had in a long time. Untracked all day - all the hardcores were skiing Silvy that day I guess....
Chopper approves -
Here's some more video (not mine): https://www.instagram.com/p/CYfdVuRFN2E/
Sunday was all about dogs, skiing with kids, and fitting in a couple Silvy / BA laps. When Palisquawpine opens wall-to-wall, holy crap that mountain is unreal!!
Fuck yeah skiing!

It's been my experience lately--when I do ski on busy days--that the traffic and parking can be horrible but for the most part after the morning upload the lifts are tolerable. (Unless it's KT on a storm day) Last year I blamed the traffic and parking on the pandemic--people not wanting to share cars. This year people don't seem to give a shit about that so I don't know.
This actually seems to be a NT/Truckee phenomenon--pull into a restaurant or other business parking lot and the lot is jammed. You figure a wait to eat but when you go in the place is half empty. I don't know the reason--maybe some of it is people rendezvousing in a parking lot and then taking one car to Reno Costco.

Speaking of the Oly parking lot, who the fuck backs a large van into a tight stall in the middle of the morning rush? And sticks out so far that it probably took 5 minutes for the car on the other side of the parking line to wiggle its way out of its spot.

What does that translate to in terms of wait times for lifts? 2 minute, 5 minute, 10 minute lines?
My experience at N* this year has been similar to what OG has been seeing elsewhere. Traffic is nuts. Lots are regularly filling to capacity (which I only recall happening a couple days I’ve skied previous seasons), but lines on the hill certainly aren’t the worst I’ve ever seen - definitely not short though. Not sure what that’s all about.
