BTW, one of the proposals currently in the package is mandatory batteries in new construction. Wonder why, since Truckee is currently exempted from mandatory solar because of the snow load.

Because batteries are necessary for when the power goes out regardless of what charges them. I'm not sure about other batteries but the powerwall can be charged by the grid or by solar, but not both.

It hasn’t even snowed yet and already at least 3 semis have jack-knifed on EB 80 at the Floriston curve in the last 2 days (yesterday and today).

My understanding is that home-sized batteries are good for less than a day and are intended to reduce the need for grid power during the night and cloudy days. What people need backup power for are anticipated multiday outages--either planned or due to weather and other events.

People skied in Tahoe today...I saw the Facebook and Insta posts. I think that calls for a new thread.

If I start it, the title is going to be "Tahoe '23: The Year Of That Fucking New Gondola"

So speaking of the gondola, just saw this article, which states the gondola will operate 9-4 daily. When the vast majority of the community was against the project, KSL/Alterra's big selling point was that it wouldn't be just a ski lift, it would be a major transportation component that would help reduce traffic. It seems to me the best way to utilize that thing to reduce traffic would be to run it for a couple hours before and after the ski area is open. That way, if you are coming from Tahoe, you can just go straight to Alpine and ski either ski area, avoiding the clusterfuck from Alpine to the Olympic Valley lot. Same if you are coming from Truckee, just go to OV. Not surprising that we got bamboozled on this. I would love to see Placer County step in and require them to run it as transportation and not just a ski lift, but probably no chance of that happening.

I don't want to derail the parking and skiing on a few flakes stoke, but HOLY SHIT the trails in Carson City are the best I've ever experienced them. Whatever your plans are tomorrow, you need to cancel them and ride instead.

Snapped my fibula at PTOV back on 5/13, so have been on injured reserve all spring/summer.
Vets definitely skied both in August and September, though.
