I rode by on my bike and they hadn't started it yet but there was a CHP and two caltrans trucks there so maybe they were getting it set up at that point

22 Blue - Looking ahead to the New (aka Fuck Summer (aka Tahoe Thread))
not good
Lincoln Heights neighborhood is mostly gone. 20 out of 200 students at Weed HS where my friend works lost their homes.Last edited by ~mikey b; 09-06-2022 at 07:41 PM.
I didn't believe in reincarnation when I was your age either.

all time heat record in Sacramento yesterday at 116. The impressive part is this almost 2 full months after what is normally the hottest point of the year. The old record, as most all time highs are, was set in mid July (of 1925). Reno beat it's daily high record for the day, by 10 full degrees. That's like it's on a different page from the rest of the bell curve.

Mosquito Fire is currently blowing up.

Set the time for 1 hour (currently). Takes a bit before they turn the camera to the fire which is already burning good. Then at 9:10 the smoke column eruptspowdork.com - new and improved, with 20% more dork.

It’s been a great summer for clear skis so far this summer. With the Mosquito Fire growing, here are a few resources I find helpful for managing during times like this.
Smoke forecasts: There are a few out there, but I like this one the best. https://tools.airfire.org/websky/v2/#hrrr. I prefer the HRRR mode from the top menu. It makes a 36 hour forecast 4 times a day.
Here is a list of things you can do to prepare where you live for a wildfire ranging from raking your pine needles to what to put in a go bag or an evacuation checklist. https://www.tahoelivingwithfire.com/get-prepared/
One important thing that often gets overlooks is that heavy smoke and even a remote threat from a wildfire can cause trauma in children and adults. Doing things some of the things to prepare for wildfire in the above list, or even just reviewing an evacuation plan with the family, can be helpful for managing this stress in addition to reducing the risk of a wildfire to your home. Here is a deeper dive into trauma in youth with a wildfire focus. It’s written for teachers but has a lot of good information in it. https://catalog.extension.oregonstate.edu/sites/catalog/files/project/pdf/em9348.pdf
Sign up for evacuation notifications for your area.
Placer county https://www.placer.ca.gov/2426/Placer-Alert
Nevada County https://www.nevadacountyca.gov/2713/Emergency-Alerts
Fire modeling: Here is an open source and fairly accessible fire behavior model. https://pyrecast.org/ It is a model with that has a lot of uncertainty and modeling fire behavior is very complicated. It is much better at highlighting general areas where a fire is likely to spread than at predicting what will burn tomorrow vs two days from now. Again these are complicated and should be interpreted with a grain of salt. For the layperson, the information from the Look Out https://the-lookout.org/ or direct from CalFire/whatever agency is managing the incident are probably more helpful.
I know there are other folks around here who also work in fire and may have different resources they prefer, but these are the ones I use the most on my own time and for my job (helping prepare people for wildfire).

That foresthill fire has the potential of making it to Olympic valley, zero chance of controlling the head of it right now.

Looks like the fire just crossed the river and made a run up to volcanoville, which is likely toast.
https://www.alertwildfire.org/region...a=Axis-BaldCA2
Take the timelapse back to 13:30, which is also when CA Firescanner announced that Volcanoville would be impacted in 15-30 minutes. This makes the head of the fire larger for any west or east wind event, which is scary since the east winds coming with Kay's remnants will push it towards a lot of population.powdork.com - new and improved, with 20% more dork.

I plan to get new boots this season, are Olympic bootwork, Granite chief and Start Haus still the places to go? I will ski at PT/Alpine and being able to do adjustment at the end of the day is a plus.
Edit: shit didn't know about the fire. Good vibes to everyone there, I keep my fingers crossed.

22 Blue - Looking ahead to the New (aka Fuck Summer (aka Tahoe Thread))
Sharp increase in smokiness just south of tahoe city. I'm in Eldohoma now and there's ash falling.

22 Blue - Looking ahead to the New (aka Fuck Summer (aka Tahoe Thread))
Amazing edge to the smoke to the north.
Accumulation of ash at lake level. If anybuddy skis it, we can start the new thread.
